Hi all,

I finished AAT level 4 on the new 2013 syllabus about two months ago, I've been sent numerous letters in the post from AAT saying I will gain exemptions from ACCA papers F1, F2 and F3 if I complete level 4. I've tried to register with ACCA however I'm only eligible to gain exemptions from paper F2. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem with ACCA? I'm hoping it's just an admin error but if it's not I don't think AAT should be claiming we can gain exemptions when it's simpily not true.

Maybe it has something to do with which optional units you chose to do in Level 4? Which ones did you do?

I finished AAT on an older syllabus, but I was exempt from F1,2 and 3, and I don't remember it mattering which optional units I'd chosen. Have you sent ACCA proof you've completed AAT? If so, why don't you give ACCA a call and see if they can explain as that does sound unusual to me, unless things have recently changed a lot.

I've just checked the exemption enquiry form on the ACCA website, and it seems if you have completed the AAT via the diploma route (I don't know what it's called nowadays!) then you will be exempt from F1,2 and 3. https://portal.accaglobal.com/accrweb/faces/page/public/accreditations/enquiry/main/EnqProgrammesTable.jspx?_afPfm=121hp1zvne

ACCA just confirmed via email the exemptions have changed recently, if you complete AAT you get an exemption from F2 that's it. I was hoping to sit F4 and F5 in December but I can't see that happening now, I'm going to try and sit F1 and F3 asap as they can be taken as a CBE at anytime and hopefully I'll can sit F4 in December.

    Thanks for the replies.

I honestly don't think that's a bad thing. Nothing in AAT really covers the F1 syllabus so I always thought it odd that it could be claimed as an exemption. And much as most people seem to disagree with me, I do think there are bits of F2 and F3 which aren't covered in AAT, or are worded/calculated slightly differently. I also think it's quite good for people to see the increase in content/knowledge required for each exam compared to AAT. I would imagine it's quite a shock to go from AAT exams straight into the brand new content of F4-9 if you are unprepared for the increase in content/difficulty. At least by doing F1-3, people can ease into ACCA by studying subjects they already have a basic knowledge of. If it helps, I did both F2 and F3 within a few weeks of finishing AAT as I just topped up the extra knowledge. This allowed me to squeeze F6 into the next exam session which I'd have missed if I'd had to wait for my exemptions (my ICAS results took ages to be verified).

Thanks Nps - I've looked at the F1 syllabus and I agree I don't recall doing any of it in AAT. I must of completed the majority of the F3 syllabus as I believe it contains double entry, preparing a trial balance, group accounts etc but the accounts prep/financial statements were my favorite modules in AAT so I'm not too bothered about sitting the exam. As you said, I'll use it to get used to to the increase in content and difficulty.

Looks like it could be true. I checked the exemptions database and only F2 comes up as an exemption. I am disappointed as I have just registered with the ACCA and was hoping to get all three exemptions.

Having had a second look on the exemptions database, it looks like the exemptions changed for the 2013 standard If I check the Level 4 diploma on the 2010 standards then all three exemptions come up. So for me, I have to now do F1 and F3 .
