Trial balance

Any tips for making sure the trial balance balances???

    As long as u get everything in the right colums you shouldnt have a problem. Dont rush and think each heading through, which should be a debit and which should be a credit. But going by the past papers most of the debits are first then there are a few credits along with discount alloed and reciveved to catch you out. then a load of expenses at the bottom (debits of cors!)

    if you add up all the ammounts and divide them by 2, that is the ammount that should be on both sides, so then when you start putting the amounts in the debit or credit side and you get one wrong, you will know because it will not add up correctly. and you can keep going untill it does.

    I wouldn't worry too much if the tb doesn't balance - just create a suspense account to make it balance and get on with the rest of the paper. In every exam my ex boss did he said the tb never balanced!
