New Job

Can anybody help me decide, I have been a full member since 2003 only I have never used my qualification to is full only apart from a few book keeping jobs for my dads business, in my current job which has been my bread and butter for 12 years I have never and will never use my qualification, but here's the dilema I have been offered a job in an accounts office only I am a little worried about being somewhere which is not the norm, well the norm for me,in other words I am a little scared to leave the comfort of my normal job and start somewhere which might be a big challenge.

    I know exactly what you mean. I became a full member in 2004 and although I use most of the knowledge I gained through AAT within my job of management accouting, I'd like to move to a job in which I can get more involved in budgeting and forecasting, but as I don't do this day to day I am also a bit scared of going elsewhere. I think it's just a case of believing in yourself and telling yourself that you've gained an important qualification which you can apply to any accounting situation.

    My normal job is assistant manager for an electrical wholesale, which by the way does not pay as much as someone in an accounts position.

    ok ill give you the none wishy-washy response.

    If you have a family to support or other such responsibilities then maybe you need to give some extra thought, as often the amount you earn and short term sacrifices can't be made so risk-free as the same person without such responsibilites.

    If you don't have such responsibilites then go for it! If you aren't already going for it give yourself a slap! I stayed in a job for 6 years it was fairly easy and the pay was ok and so I stuck it out until I was 26. What a mistaka to maka! I traded it all in to go to uni and am no feeling really confident about moving on. One way or another you'll work your way to at least a good as position as before and then anything after that is a bonus! Don't be like me and grow apathetic and waste years of your life! The gambles are never as big as they seem, and the challenges never as big as your apprehension.

    :oops: I was at home raising a family for 7 years during that time I worked through my AAT (not easy when your not working) I did sole trader accounts for someone I know but that was all.
    I took a job in an accountants office doing payroll and it was daunting at first. I soon got used to the environment though and the people were nice.
    As long as your prospective employers know the level of your experience they wont expect too much and you will have time to get used to it.
    With your retail management experience you are bound to be able to secure another post if you try the office and find it's not for you.
