Re:un-nerved about the exam
Hiya,
You can only do ya best chick... that's what I am telling myself at least, still nervous though!
Have you done all of the past papers off of this website, and re-read the textbook?
After doing some of the past papers you should feel more comfortable and prepared, each year the layout stays similar it looks like, so unless they go and have a radical change, June's should go along the same ideas.
That is all that I can do to be prepared, can I do anything else?! :?
Good luck!

Yeah that's the best thing to do. I have done all the past papers and I feel fine, I'm dreading the unit 3 sim though!

Re:un-nerved about the exam
Thanks!
Yeah the sims are supposed to be much harder than the exam but still when I did a past paper I completely went blank one what sides the opening balances go on. I'm petrified I'm gona do that in the exam!0 -
Re:un-nerved about the exam
Hey Gem,
If your unit 3 sim is anything like mine, it will be a lot harder than the exam (according to past papers) so don't worry that you won't pass the central due to this.
My unit 3 I struggled with but you may be cool, I had practised suspense accounts, journals, recs the lot and I went blank in my sim.
Try ya best chick, mine didn't balance after 3 and a half hours so don't worry if you find it hard, you're not alone!

Re:un-nerved about the exam
I've done a practice simulation and it was ok, it was complicated so I had to really think about some of my answers but there was no tricks in there!
Just gonna keep practicing, it's all I can do, I can't do anymore and I'm going to do my best
Good luck everyone!

Re:un-nerved about the exam
When they give you a list of opening balances like purchases, sales etc does it fit the normal DEAD CLIC, PEARLS scheme? Also how do you know what sides to put the open balances in the PLCA and SLCA?0 -
Re:un-nerved about the exam
Hi
Yes the rules for DEAD CLIC does fit the opening balances that they will give
The opening balances of PLC is credit - as the accounts are your creditors (you owe them) and SLC is debt the accounts are your debtors (they owe you).
I always think about the bank side first - as in if something is paid out, its the credit side and so on and work from that - but everyone has their own useful reminders!
Don't panic - seriously - all you can do is practice and do your best. If you have completed unit 3 and did well, you will have no problems with the exams. Aslong as you remember your credit/debit sides, it'll all be good!
Good Luck everyone

Re:un-nerved about the exam
I always think PLCA is creditors - credit creditors and SLCA is debtors - so debit debtors
It works for me
bleugh I'm so ill

Re:un-nerved about the exam
Does anyone know incidently, how to write off bad debt? What do you credit and debit? I had £10,000 plus VAT to write off a customer account0 -
Re:un-nerved about the exam
Hiya
Bad debts is an expense and so goes into the Bad debt account as a debit
Credit SLC
Credit Subsidary (Sales) Account (not part of double entry)
Debit Bad Debt
Hope that helps

Re:un-nerved about the exam
I thought it was:
Dr Bad debts (net)
Dr VAT
Cr SLCA (gross) and then sub ledger
I might be wrong though ?

Re:un-nerved about the exam
so did I. I also think when writting a bad debts of with VAT being claimed would be to: debit bad debts
debit VAT and Credit Sales Ledger Control.0 -
