Tax Returns

For those who care - and that includes me - Lord Carter has today changed his recommendation about tax return filing dates.
Paper returns will now have to be filed by the end of October but the filing date for electronic returns will remain at 31st January The original proposal was September for paper and November for electronic
I am very happy about that as it would have caused major problems in accountants' offices throughout the country. We would all have had to give up summer holidays and take up ski-ing in the winter !! What would I have done with my beach hut?
Regards
Dean

Re:Tax Returns
I think that I could almost give Carter a snog
he is certainly back on my Christmas card list - even though I wont have time to write any as too busy doing tax returns in December :?
On a more serious note though, I am really pleased that he has listened to the accounting bodies, and realised that what he had suggested was a load of pants.
Three cheers for common sense and the common man (and woman)!!!

Re:Tax Returns
A rather nasty afterthought - I do sincerely hope that Her Majesty's government agrees Carter, otherwise back to square one again

Re:Tax Returns
should we all start writing to the queen now just in case?!
i'm also thinking that I hope that either the deadline for partnership returns remains as it is now, or that HMRC provide the facility to file them online... mmm...0 -
Re:Tax Returns
Sorry that was a quick copy and paste from another forum I use.
Some accountants were actually for the idea. Saying that they were already equiped with online filing etc. and they could relax more over the christmas period.
Personally I don't like change, so i'm happy
Jodie R, you can file the partnership returns online, can't you :? sure thats what we do here with Tax Calc.

Re:Tax Returns
you can only file partnership returns with 3rd party software & i'm too tight to pay for it!! Instead I pay my sister to enter the tax return details straight onto HMRC's website and do p/ship returns on paper.
It's a very minor quibble though, I would probably be prepared to buy a software package if I knew it was giving me an extra 3 months to file the returns.0 -
Re:Tax Returns
I was happy for 30 November if they moved the FYE to 31.12 - that would have made me seriously happy - hello Christmas
I dont ski, so just whacked and broke in February and March - promising myself to catch up on all the things that I havent done during the year, but somehow apathy overtakes and they have to wait another 12 months - ho hum

Re:Tax Returns
FYE of 31 December? how fantastically sensible would that be?! It would even be worth dealing with the revenue's incompetencies trying to get it right in the long run. can't see it EVER happening though!0 -
Re:Tax Returns
It would be brilliant - and in line with the rest of Europe which would make the pro-Euros happy - this government or HMRC do something sensible nah never happen

I'm pleased with the outcome if government listen and come up with another hair brained idea :roll:0 -
