Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Hey everyone. What a fantastic exam! Not an error in sight, beautifully written and so easy. Wouldnt I just like to get hold of the bloke that wrote that one! From what Im reading I got pretty much the same answers so hopefully we've all done enough to scrape through. Cant wait for the Thursday exam. Then I'm going to open a bottle of red wine and get hammered.
Good luck everyone

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Heyup,
All the things you said- i totally agree with!!
I just guessed at the ambiguous (dont know how to spell that?) parts in section 2 and are hoping for a miracle.
I think section 1 wasnt too bad but section 2- Borderline whether i have failed or not.
I added the asset to Novembers figures but i think i made a mistake by puting the renting costs as a long term liability instead of just adding on to the cost of sales (which i did originally then went back and changed it because i thought it was too simple!!) Darn it!!! Also calculated depreciation and then forgot to add it in- oops. Was running out of time which i think caused this to happen.
As for ideal standards- i had no idea what this was but i managed to do the lifecycle thing by making it up and remarkably what i put was correct (as i checked when i got home!)
Best get off to bed for the early start in revising for Thursdys exam- havent done nything at all on it, been concentrating on this bloody one.
Lets pray its an easy one eh people?!!!0 -

Just sat today's PEV, what a nightmare.
* Noise outside the classroom at London Bridge, complained to the tutor several times. This didn't help.
* The tutor we had was useless didn't cover the subjects probably  .
* Revision tutor was excellent and if I pass it is all down to him.
* Did anyone cover Life cycle in the classroom, never heard of it before, therefore fingers crossed on this.
* I express how much time wasted looking at page 6 and then couldn't decide which figures to use, September, October or perhaps November. Anyway took November figures.
Not looking forward to 20th February as this is my second attempt. Been throught papers backwards and forwards and felt very confident this morning.
Wasted time on TQM - Balance Scored - ABC Costing - Sub Division on variances.
Well good luck to everyone, perhaps they will re access the examiner, lets hope.
Regards
Hey buddy did u take ur exam at London bridge yesterday as well? its most likely u were in the same exam room as me lol0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
i used budget - actual in section 1, is that not right ? :oops:0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Hi Guys, Just seen what everyone has put about yesterdays exam. I feel so much better to know you all felt the same and about the boo boo with page6 when it should have been page 8. I have to admit I picked that up quite quickly and thought they meant 8. But I heard that aat sent an email to the centre I as studying at to let them know this at 12.02pm just when the exam was about to end. I know what you mean about being distrubed when doing the exam I was not a London Bridge I was else where, but due to having extra time in the eaxm I was put in another room but unfortunatly right next to reception, I heard every conversation and the telephone going. Great conditions for doing an exam. Lets hope this is all taken into account when the papers are marked.0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Sounds like we all had things to contend with. Despite the signs up, students congregated outside our hall.

Helen, are you doing PCR on Thursday?

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
No, I didn't even get as far as starting the first chapter. Had a few things crop up, so decided to focus on just PEV.
Are you?

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Yes, madly enough! I seem to enjoy putting myself under extra pressure.
Do you like my picture? It is my home-bred pony, a picture of her helps me bring things into perspective. After all these exams are not the end of the world, are they?0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Yes, excellent photo.
Quite agree. At the time they are so important, but we shouldn't allow them to take over our lives.
Easier said than done at the moment!

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Help On the last question about the lifecycle it said something along the line of not to include opportunity figures so I didn't include the decommissioning as you don't know what the price will be until it has happened given that it is 10 year away can away body help :? heather0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
I thought the 'opportunity figure' related to the possible disposal income?
The machinery had to be decommissioned, so wasn't sure if that was the same.
As I can't actually remember my answer, it's all irrelevant for now!
How do people actually remember their numerical answers? I recognise some of the figures when they're posted, but I would never be able to quote mine.

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Hi Amanda I worked out the maintance cost for each year and the rent for each month for 10 years are you saying this might be wrong? nothing we can do about it now just wait fo Feb and then the re-sit in June  Heather0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
I noticed the reference to page 6 and assumed it was an error and when i raised this with an invigilator she responded with "i am not allowed to help you with your exam"! did mean i wanted help with the task, just clarification if there was an error.
with regards to life cycle costing, our tutor did not teach us this in class but made it very clear that it was one of a number of areas that we did not have time to cover in class and pointed out the chapter(s) this was in and told us to be sure we learnt this in our own time. in all fairness to tutors, i believe that they are not expected to teach us everything if we have books that cover the whole unit. we were made aware at the start of the year that we were responsible for our own learning.0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Guys THANK YOU!!!
I walked out yesterday thinking I was the only one failing the exam!!
Section 1, I was really well prepared for and I think ive answered parts 1 and 2 correctly as I seem to have got the same overhead variances as mosty others and fuel prices.
Section 2, Where do I start!!! Got most of my ratios correct but Ive added the Long term liabilities into my ROCE, which ive since realised is wrong, who else has done that??
Part 2, I noticed the Page 6 thing straight away but that doesnt mean I answered it well!! I included depreciation in my fixed oheads for purchasing, and for renting I added the รยฃ50000 a month to overheads.
As for the lifecycle costs, ive totally screwed it up, I included forecast Sales for the 10 years then deducted all the costs to give a loss on both methods!!
Given that im confident about 70% of the exam do others think thats enough??
Sorry to blabber on but can I also thank every single one of you guys for making feel better about it. All the posts I can relate too!!
Cheers guy and good luck to all on thursday.

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
I agree with xmas, it seems strange that we didn't have anyone at the centre I sat at telling us that there was a mistake on the paper, why was that, and has anyone else at another centre had the same problem?0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
We weren't told in Bournemouth.

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
I am a home study person with the ftc and called them to complain that lifecycle costing was not in the book. They told me it was in chapter 10 page 284, there was a paragraph on it, not been home yet to look at the book, but I will tonight. Being home study, there is really no one else to compare notes with except on here, so thanks guys for all letting me know I have not gone mad and there were a few errors in the paper. Like a lot I was looking at p6, then found what I was looking for on p8. I did a lot of waffling on the second part of the paper so hope I have waffled and driveled enough to have passed, not very hopeful, but hey, can always do it again. Not that I want to but............0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
i have just contacted my blackpool college to check if they received any info on a mistake on the paper and they were'nt informed of an error and are contacting the aat to ask about this.I think it should have been sent to every one. perhaps any one who didn't receive an error message read to them at the exam should check with their college0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
thats exactly what i did. my lifecycle costing workings are set out below:
Rent - monthly rent x 12 months x 10 years
- yearly maintenace cost x 10 years
- decommisioning costs.
Purchase - รยฃ3 million purchase cost
- yearly maintenace cost x 10 years
- decommisioning costs.
I have estimated I propably got 60-65 per cent of the second section right. Is that a high enough percentage to pass?

i did not add maintenance to the rental option as i thought maintenance would be included in the monthly rental cost?Amanda Chapple wrote:no. thats exactly what i did.

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
you have made me feel better thanks. we are just going to have to wait 11 weeks to find out. I wish the AAT would tell us what they are going to do about their mistake as it's not fair to make us wait in suspense at something that isn't our fault.
Personally, I think they should scrap the task that had the wrong question in as it is unfair on those who didn't know what the right page was. Also, Surely the pass mark will have to be lowered to take all their mistakes into consideration as people couldn't do as well as they would otherwise have done.0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Maintenance charge -
It wouldn't normally be included in the rental. I based it on what happens at the company I work for. We regularly rent plant, but have to pay for servicing.
Although 10 years would not be viable!

They won't do that - the information we needed was contained within a certain number of pages. I expect they will apologise but get out of it by saying we are instructed to read all the data carefully. If candidates had done that, there wouldn't be an issue. I can hear them wriggling already...!

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Hi everyone,
Having spoken to an ex-teacher, he said that if enough people complain about the mistakes in the paper, they have to discount the question, and re-adjust the marks, or something to that effect.
Did the same workings as you Amanda in relation to lifecycle, so that makes me feel better. :-o0 -
Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
I have just started a new topic about this Online Survey that seems to have appeared within hours of yesterdays paper, it states We have set up an online survey so you can tell us what you think about major aspects of the papers. The survey is written in a way that allows us to quantify and analyse the responses. We can present the results to the Exam Review Panels in January. At that time the final competency levels are decided in the light of performance.Amanda Chapple wrote:you have made me feel better thanks. we are just going to have to wait 11 weeks to find out. Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
Unless their error was one of content - i.e. a numerical impossibility, I don't think we will get anywhere.
I've already done the questionnaire.
It's really going to be down to how many answered incorrectly. But the issue of time lost looking has to be addressed. A candidate may have got the actual answer correct, but wasted time and made a silly error elsewhere.
Don't know how they can resolve this one!

Re:PEV Todays Exam!!!
I agree I only just finished the paper due to lost time and didn't have time to check my answers i have read people had run out of time because of the confusion.0
