So what book had that wow factor for you? It doesn't have to be a classic, just something that changed your life a little.
Mine is 'The Last Time They Met' by Anita Shreve.
I won't give the ending away, but it's a book about regrets and how one thing, one meeting, can change a life forever. We're not talking about romance necessarily, just choosing a pathway.
Shreve is a prolific writer and this particular novel is inter-twined with another - The Weight of Water.
Maybe they're all books for females, but the way the characters are constructed - and desconstructed - makes any of her novels an excellent read.

Re:Books - that made you turn the page
My favourite book of all time is Little Women! I even have 2 copies of it! im not sure why though i can just never put it down whenever i pick it up0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
My favourite book is Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews; it's supposed to be a true story.
But I also like My Story by Dave Pelzer, Ugly by Constance Briscoe and all of the other Virginia Andrew books. These are all true stories, maybe that's my thing :? and they're all quite disturbing and mostly about child abuse. All of these books really touch me, in good and bad ways.0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
Yeah the Dave Pelzer books are all really interesting and the first one made me cry!

Re:Books - that made you turn the page
I am currently reading Plato "the last days of Socrates"
Best book I ever read was called 'The Psalm Killer' and I would highly reccommend it0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
Any book by Harlan Coben is great! Especially ones with Myron Bolitar in! I have all of his books!0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
I'm currently reading jade Goody's autobiography, but Kerry Katona's, Ant & Dec's or Shane Ritchie's have to be the best books i've read, oh and both of Jordan's books0 -

Hmmm.. slightly easier than picking music. Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow would be top of my list, followed closely by Thomas Ligotti's sylish, intelligent and distinctly unsettling collection of horror stories The Nightmare Factory. I probably wouldn't want to be without Tristram Shandy, Ulysses or J H Prynne's Poems.
You'll notice that there's nothing by Cox and Fardon in my list

Angels and Demons - I loved it.0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
I have disliked all Dan Brown's books - Angels and Demons was probably the best of a very bad bunch. I don't even think he's a particularly good or exciting writer and his style is a bit kiddy-ish at times.
I thought The Da Vinci Code was just an uninspiring load of old pants after all the hype, but then others have loved it, proving we all have different tastes!

Re:Books - that made you turn the page
But it made me turn the page - which was the point of this thread.
Worst book I've ever read is PS I Love You which has sold millions and is being made into a film.
I've kept the book as an example of you can achieve with the right agent!

Re:Books - that made you turn the page
Currently reading 'The Shining' I have never read Stephen King, but I am getting through the pages0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
I was really disappointed with the end of The Da Vinci Code - it felt like a huge build up for nothing.
Angels and Demons was so much better - I thought Digital Fortress was ok, a bit predictable. Deception Point is on my shelf waiting to be read - am currently reading Wuthering Heights.
Is PS I Love You by the same author who did Chasing Rainbows? Cecila someone? I read Chasing Rainbows and thought it sucked!0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
I like FHM and NUTS
Oh and I did read Dave Pelzer ones too, good books. I seem to like Lord of the Rings too.0 -

Da Vinci Code - totally agree. I think he just started including as many daft things as possible.
PS written by Celia Aherne - her father is the Irish PM.
Couldn't get into Wuthering Heights. Think I sold it on Ebay!

Re:Books - that made you turn the page
Wuthering Heights - I too am struggling to get into it, but am determined to read it!
One thing I can't understand is what the heck the character Joseph is saying and I'm not even sure what his accent is supposed to be.
I'm also not sure I understand it correctly! As far as I know so far, Catherine's father found Heathcliff and took him in as a son and they fell in love - incest?!0 -

Who's Catherine?

Re:Books - that made you turn the page
Did I get the name wrong or do you mean you didn't get that far in?
She was the daughter who lived at Wuthering Heights - I know she dies (they say at start so not ruining it for anyone) but I don't know how yet - not got to it.0 -
Re:Books - that made you turn the page
It's been a while since I read Wuthering Heights, but I always interpreted Joseph as having an Irish accent- can't remember what type though. Also, if I recall correctly, Heathcliff is Catherine's step-brother, so it may not be incest in the legal sense, and they aren't blood-relatives at all.
Anyway, favourite author? Bernard Cornwell for straightforward military history action-adventure. I particularly enjoyed the Harlequin/Vagabond/Heretic series set in the Hundred Years War.
Chuck Palahnuk (of Fight Club fame) is a favourite of mine, especially Survivor and Invisible Monsters.
Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is also a lot of fun.

Sorry attempt at humour - failed again!

Mr Men
I liked the da vinci code but didn't really think it was anything special. I hated Angels & Demons, I couldn't finish it.
Has anyone said Harry Potter yet?
I love him 0 -
