PTP courses

My former employer used PTP as their sole in-house training provider and I was always very impressed with their course content and delivery.

However, now the bills arrive at my door I have only ever been to one PTP course, about a specific area of taxation, as the cost has always been too prohibitive.

I have been sent details of their courses for the forthcoming year and they are actually pretty competitive. I would say they are on par with the very cost-effective AAT MIP courses.

4 quarterly tax updates, 2 half-yearly accounting updates, 1 finance bill update and 1 tax enquiries course all for £375. That's about £47 per course - not bad!

I have used Pass Training before who were always cost-effective but their 8 course block booking comes to £472 (£59 per course).

PTP are going to be tough to beat on this one.

What course providers do you use?

I too, as I had a demo disc from PTP have been sent details of their courses which included an introductory offer, making them look good value for money.

I have enrolled for a charity accounts day this Saturday with http://www.independentexaminers.co.uk/ who organise occasional day sessions on independent examination/annual accounts when the need arises and they publish the details on their website. Again their prices are competitive at £90 a day for this session with a CD of templates/notes at £30 as an optional extra.

    Hi Alyson,

I take it you won't be attending the AAT courses in Charity Accounting and Independent Examination coming up shortly..

(I'll be at the first one - is anyone else going?)

I took a look at that Independent Examiners website but couldn't find any details about the course.

They are advertising for a qualified AAT post though - £13k per annum! I think they need a reality check!

Independent examination - I only do this for one client but it does interest me. However, courses in London are no good for me - maybe I will ask for the papers after the course.

    Re:Charity Courses

I did obtain a copy of the AAT Charity course notes from another AAT member who attended in Sept 06 - I have chosen the Chichester option in favour over the ACIE 2 day course which is more expensive and at the time of booking the AAT CPD programme did not offer the charity course option. I notice that ACIEW now offer a post grad diploma in Charity Accounting, as I received one of their flyers.

I would like more courses aimed at the commercial accounts later in the year as my own knowledge will become dated, particularly tax, although I do subscribe to taxwires which has some excellent features. Accountingweb also offers some gems on its forum, after digging forever over LLP's I did eventually get some excel templates which were excellent for information. However the potential client was shocked at the quoted price, oh well.

Side tracking to advertising/marketing - I subscribe to Business Link's supplier matching database now that I can give 2 client referees and waiting to see if it generates any new clients - do any members have positive results from this database which I understand contains 5,000 plus businesses mainly in the south of England.
