Re:Website query
It's more expensive to have a .com website hosted.

Re:Website query
According to Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.uk#Second-level_domains
.co.uk is intended for UK companies, but is not restricted. (however, .ltd.uk and .plc.uk are restricted to limited companies and public limited countries registered with companies house respectively.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.biz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.com
When domains were set up in 1985, .com was in the original six top-level domains and was intended for commercial organizations. However, in the mid-1990s, it became de-restricted and anyone could register a .com domain. In 2001 the .biz domain was created for legitimate commercial purposes- ie not personal pages.
So what's the real difference? Not much, its just an address. .com, .biz and .co.uk are pretty generic. So is .org.uk, but .mod.uk and .ac.uk are restricted to the Ministry of Defense and academic institutions respectively.
Of course, this is all based on Wikipedia, so I could be wrong- but it sounds reasonable!0 -

Re:Website query
Another issue with .com is that most of the cool domain names have been taken many grabbed by quick thinking folks to make a fast buck. That's one reason why .biz and a few other new domains were set up a few years ago.
Some of the country top-level domains have thrown up some interesting anomalies. Tuvalu has had a nice little earner in .tv. Last.fm gets its domain from the Federated Staes of Micronesia. According to wikipedia Montenegro is due to be assigned .me in the near future which is is likely to be popular. I think I'll keep my eye out for that happening.
