Can someone save me some time and provide a standard text letter for the letter to previous accountant, I assume this relates to making sure there are no outstanding issues. If so my email is alysonstoakley@yahoo.co.uk
Hopefully this situation does not generate the response similar to when one changes utilities provider, ie the outgoing provider then tries to persuade a change of mind??

Re:Letter to Previous Accountant
Here you go Alyson
I have recently been approached by the above to act as their accountant for the year ended 5 April 2006 and thereafter.
Please could you inform me of any circumstances or information which you have knowledge of, which I need to consider in deciding whether or not to formally accept this appointment.
If there are no circumstances that I need to be aware of, would you please supply the following information:
(a) The last tax return and schedules submitted, including business taxation computations, capital allowance claims, etc.
(b) Copies of the previous year’s self assessment return, and any others relating to any earlier tax years which are still open or on which enquiries are still in progress.
(c) The last completed accounts available for the business.
(d) Any schedules you have giving details of the make-up of items in the last completed accounts, such as:
(i) debtors and prepayments;
(ii) creditors and accruals;
(iii) bank reconciliations;
(iv) stock and work in progress;
(v) other.
(e) A note of the appropriate tax district and reference numbers.
(f) Details of any taxation losses available and overlap profits not previously utilised.
(g) Any other schedules etc. which you feel will be of assistance.
Please also give details of any items such as accounting records/private ledgers, etc. which you hold so that we may arrange for their collection.
Just add/delete as you think fit for each client

Re:Letter to Previous Accountant
I have just been asked to take over accounts for a company whose accountant has just died. I am presuming that I cannot get access to any previous information, other than through the tax office!!! :roll:0 -

TC..
You're going to struggle with that one!
If the information is pertinent then you should contact the administrators of the estate for access to the file.
I rate your chances 50/50!!0 -
Re:Letter to Previous Accountant
Hello Alyson
Further to Claudia's letter, I'd like to also point you to a helpful article on this subject that was previously included in The Professional newsletter. It is now available through the members in practice toolkit on our website.
As a fully licensed member, you can access the toolkit through your MyAAT login. Once you are logged in to the website the option for the toolkit will be in the menu on the left of the screen.
Within the toolkit there is a section titled Useful Articles, which includes an article on Changes in professional appointment.
Kind regards
