Hi everybody,

A cab driver submitted account to HMRC. There was investigation into the general cleaning of the car on a £10 weekly payment. HMRC disallowed £5 @52 weeks due to unavailability of receipts.

I visited some car wash places and enquired about the full cleaning charges. The charges are between £8 & £10.

My question is:

Due to the research and discovered that the weekly £10 claimed was correct, can the £5 @52weeks disallowed by HMRC be redress without receipts?

Is there any tax law or case law that allow unreceipted but actual expenses by research to be claimed?

Your response will be appreciated.

I can't see how you could argue it without receipts, because who is to say that the vehicle cleaning even took place?

To be honest, he was lucky to get the £5 allowed.

My local hand wash is only a fiver and my taxi drivers are unlikely to go for a tescos superwax for a tenner every week!
