Becoming an MIP

Hi
I'm interested in doing some self employed work once I've passed the AAT qualification.
I'm wondering what type of work this qualification will actually enable me to do?
Reading through some of the messages on the board the knowledge of people on here seems to be way beyond what I've learnt.
(Although I am yet to start Technician, I still think there will be knowledge missing that would stop the AAT granting me a certificate)
Thanks for the help

Re:Becoming an MIP
The qualification does not in itself enable you to do any work in a self-employed capacity.
It is your experience gained whilst attaining the qualification that enables you to conduct work as a member in practice.
One of the many advantages of the AAT qualification is that the AAT will grant you a practising certificate in whatever areas you can prove you are competent in.
When I first gained my practising certificate it was limited to accounts preparation and income tax, as those were the areas I felt competent in. Since then I have added the full array of general practice activities.
Only YOU will know in what areas you feel competent enough to advise clients in a fee-paying capacity. My advice would be to start doing what you are most comfortable with and then build upon your knowledge and expand your experience from there.0 -

Cheers Dean
Should think I'd have to start at basic bookkeeping and by the time I'm an MAAT I should have some expereince in Management Accounting.0 -

Whereabouts are you based Luke?0 -
Re:Becoming an MIP
I live in Birmingham, short train ride from the city centre which is good.
I'm looking at maybe moving into practice after I finish my AAT. However with no expereince in practice I may find it hard. Still it's possible that something will come up where I work or somewhere else within business.0
