Dear All,

I am hoping to upgrade to broadband can someone tell me who they think is the best service provider for this? (I'm currently with that major IT player in the market (Tesco)).

Is it best to upgrade all my software first or wait till broadband is installed and then download?

Will I be able to watch streamed video from mlb.com (my favourite website after this one of course)? as I don't seem to able to watch it at the moment.

Thanks
Plus still looking for work so if anyone hears of anything in the Derby/Nottingham area, entry level can they pm me!

    Have a look at these sites Jamie;

You might as well just download the relevant software once you have a connection decent enough for rapid downloading and streaming media - nothing less than 1mb with 2mb even better. I use AVG anti-virus and adaware (spyware), both of which are free downloads.

I see that PC World are offering a free laptop with a new Orange broadband connection which seems too good to be true and it certainly is. The free laptop is outdated - circa 2002/03 spec - and the broadband service pathetic. You have to sign up for 24 months - double that of everyone else - with a low speed connection and only 2gb data allowance per month. No doubt if you exceed this limit, the extra charges will be severe. Might be okay if you only use e-mail or do your shopping online but quite useless to anyone else who wants to use the net fully.

I have NTL (now Virgin) and pay £25.00 per month for a 4mb unlimited download connection - over the odds now I've seen the comparison sites. I need to phone them and ask them to reduce the price or tell them I'll cancel which usually works...

    Regards,

    Robert

Whoever you go with you're always taking a risk.

I'm with BT and have never had a problem, yet I know others that have had a lot of problems with them. I use to be with Orange and had loads of problems whereas others have had none.

A lot of it depends on what you are looking for, when I last checked the review website that Robert mentioned if you were looking to download a lot Tescos were a good option, whereas if you're looking for wireless BT was good.

Orange offer free phone calls at anytime as part of the deal, including International, although your number will display as an International number if you ring anyone with Caller Display. BT offer free weekend and evening calls to Local and National Numbers.

A couple of other website to check:

I use plusnet as they appear at the top of 'Which broadband's' best provider list. They have great services.

I too, use Plus Net and agree with Annette about the services.
I'm thinking of using their back up facility as well.
Don't know if you know but they are owned by BT!

    Hi Jamie

I use BT at work and Virgin at home, BT is good but had afew problems setting it up and has crashed a couple of times but on the other hand virgin was well easy to set up and I did it myself and saved 25.00 and has yet to crash.

    Hope this helps.

    I'm with BT - excellent.

    Avoid Orange at all costs!

Virgin seems fine. No reason not to recommend it.

    Re:Broadband!

I have tried a few, but ended up with Virgin and the service has been amazingly reliable and very fast with 2 computers (1 wireless), 1 PSP wireless and a playstation 2 on at the same time.

I totally agree with Scott, do notuse Orange they are absolutely rubbish - I was offline for 6 weeks and the phone bill I racked up was horrific.

    Best of luck
