Company secretary

I do weekly bookkeeping and management accounts for a small Ltd Co. The current company secretay has resigned and is leaving the company and I have been asked to consider taking on the role of company secretary. I have checked the duties of the secretary on the Companies House website and it seems fairly straight forward. Can anybody advise please on potential pitfalls and, if I accept, what the going charge rate would be to perform this role on behalf of a small company?

Best definition of being a co secretary Ive heard was that you are the conscience of the company! Not everyone listens to there conscience, but you still have to voice your thoughts with knowledge and confidence.

A company secretary acts as the chief administrative officer of a company. You will advise the company on legal matters as well as financial.

As long as you are suitably experienced in business, law and finance, you should go for it.

I've been a co secretary for a while and it is both the most demanding and rewarding of roles.

    Sara

I like your description! I call it keeping the boss on the straight and narrow. Or at least trying to.

    Me too!

I do find it interesting. I need to keep on top of the legal side, especially employment and contract law. But nothing wrong with that.

You get a lot of respect for being honest - even if they choose to sometimes ignore you!
