What do other people put in their ever so polite chasing letters to clients?
A couple of times I have told them how many days it is until Christmas
But I am bored of that now - and want something not too dry and crusty.
Any thoughts?
Claudia

Re:Chasing Letters
Hi Claudia,
Is this for chasing your payment or chasing the client for their paperwork etc.?
If it's to remind them that they haven't submitted their accounts to be completed etc. then I usually write something like:
'I am writing to you to remind you that your Self Assessment Tax Return 2006-07 should
submitted by 31st January 2008.
In order to make this statutory requirement for HMRC I would be grateful if you could send
details of income & expenditure for the period ....., including any
bank statements and other documents needed to complete your annual accounts.
In order to process your tax return on time, please could you submit your records
to me by September 30th at the latest.
If you would like me to collect them from you, I would be more than happy to do so.
I look forward to hearing from you.'
Or something along those lines.
Not very original but to the point.

Re:Chasing Letters
You could try
"Oy, numpty, get yer accounts in NOW!"
Not very professional I must admit, but it does get their attention
Only joking, but judging by some posts on other threads in the past, that is the standard one would expect from some people.0 -
Re:Chasing Letters
On a serious note.
In our practice we chase people from May onwards.
Our philosophy is that the sooner the accounts are done, the sooner they know how much money they have to save for January. It seems to work because I can't move in the office for damned accounts, all needing done asap.
It does make for a quiet Xmas, with just the odd "last minute charlie" who then gets an extra charge for being "last minute"0 -
Re:Chasing Letters
I write a gentle reminder when I send them a paying in slip for July tax with a reminder of what they owe - as we all know that we cant trust HMRC to get it right
I have the same ones each year who are good and this gives me a steady stream from April to now-ish interspersed with ones that I do the VAT for anyhow, but by about now-ish I rather want most of the rest.
Historically I have only had two end of January numpties, and I have binned one of them, and the other one I rather like, and it doesnt take me very long, so he is always pencilled in for about 29th or 30th
.
I am sure that I could write the same old thing year after year and they wouldn't notice, but I would, and that's what counts

Re:Chasing Letters
Hi Claudia,
We send everyone a letter soon after the 5th April and then we badger them once a month afterwards, most are quite good. The Vat's are a pain, they all want them doing in the last week. When you've got 25 to do, like this month, then they get some serious earache.
