edited June 8 in Student general

I started a similar thread to this last year which had a great response and blew away some of the mysteriousness that surrounds many of the regular and not so regular faces on here.

http://forums.aat.org.uk/forums/posts/list/13328.page

However, that was last year and times change quick - some have moved on from these Forums since then while new people have joined. Many of us are still sad enough to spend many hours a day on here, helping where and when we can or generally just having a natter and being silly - just see the Off Topic forum for ample evidence of the latter! However, rather than simply re-bumping the old thread back, I think it would be a better idea to start a new one for this season!

Same format as last year, a very simple template that can be quickly copied, edited and pasted for anyone new who wishes to participate or for anyone else who wants to update their old details.

I didn't do the last one but I'll do this one I think!!

    First name: Steve
    Age: 25 cough cough I mean 32 (I have a cold)
Location: manchester - currently studying for my diploma in international financial reporting standards with ACCA.

Level of accountancy experience: FMAAT ACCA. Edit:I misread what you had to do with this one!! I started in industry at the age of 16 where I made lots of tea and coffee and did lots of filing!! Had a few knockbacks in various firms but found my current firm in 1999, trained and qualified with them and stayed there ever since and I don't think I'll leave.

Time spent in accountancy: too long

Current role: audit senior for a small but growing to medium sized firm in Manchester. Responsible for large portfolio of clients with the largest turnover being approx £20m. Recently my role has moved into technical compliance/practice assurance i.e. making sure accounts/audits are done in accordance with accounting/audit standards. As a result I have been the author of a number of articles published both on here and other websites which helps the trainees in our firm.

I strongly advise you to consider removing that last post, justly. The help and advice given on here by the many different contributors who take part is given freely despite it often being very time consuming. Mocking such advice when it's given is therefore a definite 'no no' and if you intend carrying on with your current course of action, you'll find that when you next ask for help, it's likely no-one will answer you.

If you wish to carry on with the spirit of this thread in particular then please tell us some details of who you are, where you are from and what you do. However, if you're just going to use it as a launch pad to mock other very highly respected posters, I suggest you go away for a while and reconsider your own status as a future forum member.

    Hi All,
Don't class my self as a regular contributor but do try and help when I can as I always turn to the forums for when I need help

Also didn't do this first time around, so it's just to let you guys know I'm still alive and kicking

    First name: Sharon

    Age: 43

    Location: Norfolk

Level of accountancy experience: Not bad, have worked in accountancy (career change from retail management) for the last 11 years starting as accounts assistant working up to management accountant which has been achieved with experience and AAT.
Passed AAT in 2005 and am now studying ATT for my sins!

Current role: Last year I took the very deep plunge from a full time reasonably well paid job to become a MIP working from home. Scary as hell but have not looked back and only wished I had done it sooner.

I'm being lazy and copying my original response:

    Baggybooks aka Helen

    44

    Dorset

Worked in accountancy since I left school - began as a junior clerk. Became a Management Accountant with the Granada group. Helped train new accountancy staff and set up new systems. I have also worked as an audit manager (which I hated!).

Am currently a Company Secretary/Accountant. I oversee a team of five. I am responsible for producing the financial statements on a quarterly and annual basis.

I also deal with the legal side of things and personnel matters - which means life is never dull!

    Yes, I know I'm a year older - but who's counting?

    First name; Frank

    Age (be honest!); 39

    Location; Bristol

Level of accountancy experience; 19 years of various government finance regimes. Qualified MAAT in 2003, after doing Foundation in 1998, Intermediate in 2001 and Technician in 2002. I haven't felt the urge to do CIMA (etc) as I am pretty much studied-out. I have to do training, CPD etc so that's enough time out from the "day job".

Time spent in accountancy; (see above: about 19 years in various finance roles in the civil service - which has seen some changes, I can tell you! )Started as assistant to a management accountant working on setting up commercial-style/business accounts in the early 1990s... then about 6 years ago, started using the new "resource accounting and budgeting" through Oracle GL and other applications.

Current role; Project finance officer, which involves a range of work, from investment appraisals/business cases, to Treasury-related submissions and expenditure planning, monthly budgeting/budget-management, producing end-year/end-month audit packs (Financial Statements and evidence for balances and movements across the BS, OCS, GL, CFS etc), risk planning, management information reporting, ... I'm jack of all trades and master of none!

I haven't been much around much either, extremely busy on the domestic front with the likelihood fo a new arrival in the family soon!!! :O
