Hi Guys,
I need to pick somebody's brains about a computer problem I have.
I had a major problem with an email last week. Now, when I go into the email and any of the microsoft office products (e.g. excel, word etc) I get this message:
Microsoft (name of product) has not been installed for the current user. Run setup to install the application.
I have got the microsoft suite installed but it's saying that it isn't.
Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know what I should do to correct it. How do you run setup? I know this is probably a basic question, but I do not profess to know very much about IT problems!!
The operating system is Microsoft XP.
Best wishes
Steve

Re:Can somebody help me please?
Hello Steve
I've had that message before though can't remember how I got rid of it. If you have the Office set-up disc you could just try inserting that, let setup do its business and re-install whatever files have become damaged or missing.
If you don't have the Office disc, you could try using System Restore from the Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore and choose a restore point before you know/think the problem occured. Hopefully, if you've allocated enough disc space to System Restore there'll be a restore point that pre-dates the problem you experienced. It won't remove any actual data files but will change your wallpaper/desktop themes and possibly folder structures if you've modified them since the point was created.
Regards,
Robert

Thanks for that Robert. I'll try the restore.

Don't have the disc, eh Steve? Naughty you!
Let me know how you get on. By the way, which version of Office is/was it?

Re:Can somebody help me please?
Hi robert,
The restore hasn't worked. It came up with a message saying that the computer could not be restored to a specific date - so I chose another date and the same thing happened.
Its Microsoft Office 2003.
I've spoken to my boss about it (I need the laptop for a client visit tomorrow) and he has said that we shall send it to the IT guy to be sorted out.
It's frustrating because all this happened just because of an email attachment.
There's been a few choice words come out of my mouth today I tell you!!!
Kind regards
