Hi there,

Since qualifying and becoming a full member of AAT in the mist of all celebrations etc friends, other department colleagues constantly refer to me as an "accountant" I often correct them and say im a qualified accounting technician not an accountant yet because I havent yet commenced studies for ACCA or CIMA.

Whats is other peoples take on it?

Also are eligible to sign passport photos for friends/colleagues applying for passports, based on the fact that AAT is a proffessional qualification?

Do you need to still be a member and have MAAT after your name? My memberships ran out, I haven't got the letters but on the bright side i've completed the AAT!! Just wish I had the pennies to carry the letters etc :(

Not too sure about that... There's a list somewhere on the Govs website..

I think FMAATs can but MAATs technically can't. However, before I read that somewhere (and it may or may not be accurate), I have successfully signed off various passport applications. Actually, I did it once before I was even qualified.

After posting I read on direct gov website that 'a member, associate, or fellow of a professional body' can counter sign so that means MAAT's can i bet they don't check as much as they should its a bit of a nonsense.

So, would 'member or associate' mean that Student members can, I wonder...

A member means you have the letters and I believe associate is where you have exemptions but have joined - therefore I don't think students members can 'officially' sign them.
