Hi all.
I just finished my AAT L4 qualification.
I’m already 42 and working as Assistant Financial Accountant in a finance team in a big company.
I’m looking for further studies, at work are all analyst accountant which they have gained ACA, ACCA or CA qualification and they have advised me to start ACCA with 10 exam to sit after exemption.
However having already certain age I’m thinking to start something shorter and rewarding too.
I thought start CTA which is much shorter with 6 exams after exemption. I think that this move could really help me as well if I want to start my own practice having a deep knowledge in Taxation as well as could help me to get job in the industry.
Having AAT L4 qualification and CTA is it a good choice? Does anyone have experience and can advise about it?
Thanks in advance all for reading my post.
Regards.

My advice would be to look at doing the ATT qualification first before CTA, it is a big leap from AAT to CTA.
But this also depends on your tax knowledge that you have gained in your employment, if this is quite extensive then you may well be ready to jump straight into CTA.
If you do decide to do ATT and have units that you have exemptions for from AAT I would advise to still take the units, the knowledge you will gain is worth more than using the exemption to get the course done quicker.1 -
Thanks douglasstroud for you answer.
I really understand your view of progression and I totally agree, currently I work as assistant financial accountant in a big company with financial products not in tax.
CTA Tax for me it’s an option which allow me to get a chartered status and be useful in the industry changing job in tax department or big boost if I’ll decide to start my own practice.
Being already 42 years old I would like to have a boost quickly. I know that will be very hard but six exam to get chartered it’s much less than ACCA or other qualifications.
Also there the option to do ATT CTA joined.
