Approached by Sole Trader who has an Accountant

Hello All
I have been approached by a Sole Trader who is being chased by a debt collection agency for HMRC for outstanding money owed from 2007/08
He states he wants me to dispute it as he believed he was all up to date.
He already has an accountant but as this debt occured with a previous accountant, his current accountant is unwilling to help.
I advised him to speak to his accountant again, what are your thoughts please?
