ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT JOBS

Hi all
How do you get a job as an accounts assistant ???
At the moment I work as a finance assistant but am doing more admin work than accounts work
have been for the past 18 months done all the usual agencies , applyied for loads of jobs but nothing
i have done my foundation aat and i am now half through intermediate , but the more of that i do , the more i feal i am not using anything of what i have learnt fom my aat , and it is getting to a stage of why carry on ? all the jobs I c state you have to have exact number of qualifications experience etc ......
The area i live in is east yorkshire and the jobs are in very short supply !

    Hi,

    Stick with it, you'll find something in the end, I did. It took me a long time but I love my job now, I am currently doing my Payroll NVQ level 2 and next year i am going to do level 3 and then i am going to doing my Accounting Qualifications.

    Something will turn up.

    Hi i agree Stick with it and the more qualified you become the more money you can ask for. So it may be a good thing that you aint finding anything staight away.

    I leave my job on Friday without a job but i am determined to get a job where I can progress and especially use what i am learning as i'm enjoying the course so much.

    Hi, I am in a similar position to you here in wiltshire.
    I works as an accounts/finance assistant and have been with the company over 2 years and the role is so very admin-based.
    Accounts experience goes as far as invoice data input and putting a few journals together.

    I completed my Foundation Level last year, studying Intermediate with exams to take in June, so same as you, but I try and keep positive that once I begin Technician and go on to be AAT Qualified the company will really have to start taking me seriously as they could end up losing out, because Im too qualified for that role anymore.

    Most people in my AAT Class at college are accounts assistants and accounts trainees, so most are in the same boat, its this inbetween stage, jumping from admin to accountancy.
