Technician option papers

I am going to start the technician soon and was going through optional papers for it. I am not going to do the audit paper but will do the OCMC. So that leaves me in a bit of a dilemma of either PTC or BTC?
My lecturer said PTC is easier but the fact i don't plan to start my own practice and prefer working in Industry and commerce, would BTC be a better option?
Could someone please give a brief on both?
Thanks in advance

Re:Technician option papers
I too am just deciding which parts to do, I was advised by one of the colleges that if I was going to do personal tax then it is easier to do both of them together as the courses both overlap.
I'm sure that will make you more confused now.

Lol..I don't want to do two tax papers!! I just want to do one, but which one to do is confusing!!0 -
Re:Technician option papers
I have done both tax options but couldn't say which one is harder!
Possibly in your situation BTC may be better but it's always useful to have personal tax as well - especially for any payroll stuff you might do (benefits in kind etc).
Have a look at each syllabus and see which one interests you more.

Re:Technician option papers
Thanks for your reply.
I went through the past paper of each paper and briefly went through the guidance notes of both units. My first impression on seeing them is that PTC is easier and more understandable.
PTC is more personal tax and relates more to your life and BTC seems more if you want to make accounts for small businesses and better if you actually prepare accounts for small clients, please correct me if i have understood wrongly.0 -
Re:Technician option papers
I think you have it summed up well. One thing to bear in miond is what you want to go on to do. Few people choose tax, as they think it is boring and hard, it is always a good string to your bow to have achieved somthing people consider challenging, and tax experience is something employers like to see on a cv.0 -
Re:Technician option papers
I think you are right about many people get put off by tax. I don't really want to pursue the whole tax side either, but want to do one unit as it would be good experience to know some basics about it. I think PTC is the better option for me.0 -
