Auditing unit

My local college does not teach the auditing unit as part of their technician level course.

We do unit 15: cash management and credit control, personal taxation, drafting financial statements, PEV, PCR and the unit 10 MAS project.

What I would like to know is, can I do the auditing option and teach myself? Is this unit a central exam, skills test or both?

If there is a skills test, is it possible to pay a college to mark this?

Thanks! :)

    Hi Phunky.

Auditing is a Skills Test. You could teach yourself but you would probably need an approved centre to sit it, unless you could sit it at work.

Colchester college does auditing as part of the AAT technician course. It's a skills test. We'll be starting the coursework in the next couple of weeks, to do the skills test in the summer.

Well I'll be registered with the local college on the technician course, so I guess I will just have to see if they will let me sit the skills test there and pay them to mark it for me!

I could sit it at work, but I thought you could only do that if you were home study and then I still need someone to mark it i.e. BPP marked all my home study skills test.

    Thanks though!

    Hi

I guess if your college doesn't offer the Auditing module as a taught module, then they would surely support you self-taught?

If you're going to do the Auditing module self-taught I'd advise you to do it asap! ie. before finishing all exams. I'm trying to do it self-taught but because i'm the type of person that'll leave it last minute cos it's all down to me (i'm not very self-disciplined...) i've not doen the audit sim, so i've finished all my exams (hopefully passed PEV, i'll see in feb!) but i've run out of motivation to study now!...

You can have the option to sit at work providing someone is willing to invigilate the simulation for the four hours, i guess under exam conditions, as long as the tutor/local college approves as well.

I want to move on to CIPFA in feb, so now it's all a bit of a rush - so as well as this auditing module, I'm trying to get my project signed off, and my tutor's unavailable for the time being for personal reasons, so aaarrrgghhhhhhh!!!! :?
