Manual vs. Computerised Accounts

Hi everyone,

I work in accounts and everything is done by computer as seems most common these days. But because I am learning everything in a manual sense in my studies, I get confused a bit more. Especially when everyone uses different ledger codes, etc....
Does anyone else get confused between what they are learning in the classes/textbooks vs, their work environment?

OMG Yes!! I use access accounts at work and all the stuff they teach in the textbooks is so much more in depth than you ever really need to know using computerised accounts.

And i definatly get confused with all the coding because on computers its all really done for you.

I was like this to start with too - if you already work in an accounting environment with a computerised system, it is very hard to see the relevance of what you are starting to learn with AAT and what you do work.

The advice I was given and would give now is try not to put the two together too much to start with - you will only get confused! Keep them seperate and later on and as you learn, it will all piece together!

The higher you get on AAT, the more things you will learn and see in the work place.

When I first started I too was confused but the more I learn't the more things made sense.

Another point to remember is at least you will be able to work if your computer system was down, without an understanding of manual accounts you wouldn't be able to do this.
Also some of the accounts I do are so small I don't use an accounts package I use a spreadsheet, this is where an understanding manual accounting also helps.

it seems strange at fiorst but helps a lot in the long run

i still have trouble remembers that the main ledger is thhe nominal etc :roll:
