Hi,
I'm thinking of doing payroll homestudy, as i think it might help me obtain some sort of work either self-employed or via a practice.
Has anyone done payroll homestudy, if so what books did you use (ie. BPP or FTC). Also, how does the volume of study compare with Technician study.
Thanks for your advice.

Re:Should I do AAT Payroll
I did payroll at college. There are two parts to it the first (NVQ 2) concentrates on running day to day payroll and the second (NVQ 3) on year end routines - including benefits in kind.
I probably spent about six hours a week on it including the three hours at college - a bit more prior to exams (although I have done a lot of payroll through work) and found it very interesting.
I would advice you to go for it as it surprises me how many firms outsource their payroll.

Re:Should I do AAT Payroll
Hi Karen,
I am currently doing the Payroll NVQ and I'd say go for it, I hadn't done that much Payroll before I started the course but I am not struggling much with it but the main factor is that I am enjoying the course and hopefully if I pass my exam in June I will then be progressing onto Level Three. The hardest part I'd say is trying to get all the documents you need to put in your portfolio.

Hi Gill & Nic
Thanks for your replies.
I think I will do it - at least it will look good on my CV when I approach local practices for some work.
Thanks again

Re:Should I do AAT Payroll
I have the BPP book for this year.
The biggest problem is finding somewhere to sit the devolved assessments. BPP have places and there are colleges that will take outside applicants, but I get the impression that there's often a lot of travelling involved.
