ACCA - Block release and weekend??

I am starting ACCA level 2 in March with FTC. I am going to do 3 papers to start and just wanted a bit of advice. Basically i can't bare the thought of going in the evenings after work (3) or Saturday and Sundays so I am thinking of combining the block release (using my own holidays) and the w.e course therefore I will be doing say 5 days of the block release and then 6 days of saturdays.

Has anyone on this site done it that way or similar?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Geraldine

    Hi Geraldine,

I think most people opt to do the distance learning course as I have. I thought about this route and decided it was going to be too much, there again I would of a minimum of an hours drive to get to my nearest centre in rush hour.

FTC are holding open days for ACCA at various locations throughout February and March prehaps they may be able to offer more advice.

    Good Luck

I can certainly agree with you about the evenings - I did ACCA 2.4 via evenings and never again! Now to avoid losing pay or holidays I am doing my next 2 courses on Saturdays (I use BPP - FTC don't do ACCA in my area) so for 3 months I only get a couple of Saturdays off but it'll be worth not doing evenings. If you are prepared to use your holidays like that then you'll have no problems.

The only thing I can advise is that ACCA papers are very demanding and if you are working full time, 3 is a lot to do. However if you did both taxes at AAT you should be alright as most of that is covered again. I work part time and have 2 small children so always do 1 paper in December (as we are busy with tax returns at work) and 2 in June which means I have come away with decent marks and not too much stress. Maybe Steve can advise you as he worked full time when he studied. I was advised by BPP to do 2.4 on it's own or certainly not to do it with 2.5 so maybe that's something to think about next year. The person I sat next to did 2.4,2.5 and 2.6 and really wished she had done the same as me. I found that the step up from AAT to ACCA was similar to the step from intermediate to technician and you have to do so much work off your own back. For instance I have found that the best way is to do every exam question in the revision kits to prepare yourself (and even then they throw in something you're not expecting).

Sorry for the long post but I've been thinking about your situation.

    Good luck

    Hi Annette

Thanks for the advice, you hve given me something to think about. I am sitting 2.1 in June provided I have passed DFS (fingers & toes crossed for Tuesday).
I was going to take 2.2 & 2.3 together in December is this possible work load wise. I was ok with tax but it has been a long time since I have studied law and I wanted to know what the work load was like for this module.
Like you I work part time and have kids. Also did you take any revision courses, if so what was your opinion of them.

    Thanks and Regards

Can I suggest we take this onto the following site www.accountancystudents.co.uk to save clogging up the AAT site with ACCA queries. Also what you've asked is useful for other ACCA students to contribute to - people will get fed up of hearing my limited opinion

    See you there
