I'm doing a mock at home under strict exam conditions (!!!) And I'm having a problem, can anyone tell me if a flexible budget is the same as a flexed budget?!?!?!?! It's probably a really silly question, but I'm stuck! Any help would be appreciated big time! Thanks. Noush.

Maybe I haven't got the right idea but I thought that a flexible budget was one that could be flexed to represent the actual volume, bar the fixed costs of course.

If I'm not right please someone tell me as I am taking PCR and PEV in December and I need to revise!!!

    Hi,

Yes that's what I thought, but does that mean that you would have to have actual figures as well as budgeted figures in order to flex it, e.g budgeted figures for 2000 units produced and actual figures for 4000 units actually produced then you would be able to prepare a flexed budget. Cos if that's the case then what is it called when you have two sets of budgeted figures eg for 5000 units and 10000 units and you have to prepare the budgeted costs for 7500 units?

Does this all make sense cos I feel like I'm rambling now, but I'm confused?!

I think that is still flexing the budget, it's just that we have only done it to compare actual results but there is no reason why you couldn't do it for a different budgeted volume.
