So who's doing/ has just started the AAT diploma (certificate level)?

It would be good to keep this thread going for us, the diploma minority.

So what stage are you at? Maybe we could set up a study-buddy thing?

I've just started the certificate through FTC (distance learning), currently on chapter 5 :-)

Cheers and look forward to hearing from you diploma students.

    Hi,

I have used the Osborne books for the Foundation NVQ and I thought that they books were excellent and were really detailed and were easy to understand. I would definately reccomend these book to study from.

Good to hear from you all.

I have been on the distance learning course with FTC for a few weeks now and I am finding it good.

I have decided to take my first exam in december so that I fully understand everything, my simulations will come after, in 2007.

I have had no experience with accounts in the past, I feel for this reason, the diploma was the best route for me.

I haven't used Osbourne books but I am finding the FTC books + pocket notes very helpful and easy to work with.

The staff at FTC are very helpful and quick to respond. So far I cannot fault them.

Good luck to everyone with their diploma, keep us up-to-date with how you're getting on.

    Cheers.

oh... in regards to getting a job in accounts, so far I haven't tried. My plan is to finish the certificate level so that I can at least offer an employer some knowledge and then start applying whilst on the intermediate.

Although, from what i've read regarding getting a job in accounts, it's easier said than done, so we'll see what happens in the future.
Good luck to those who are trying.

    Hi

I signed up today with FTC so hopefully I'll get my pack by the end of the week(?).

I decided to concentrate on Unit 30 and put in for the June exam. I'd rather pay the penalty fees to defer than find myself ready to sit the exam, but having to wait until Dec. I also feel that putting in for the June exam will give me a good motivation to buckle down from the start.

    Hello fellow Diploma people!

I'm really enjoying my diploma studies am nearing to the end of my certificate studies.

Gonna move onto Advanced Certificate soon, does anyone know if you have to have finished all of certificate before you can move on?? I'm with FTC too, will deffo stick with them, V. professional and great value IMHO.

I never thought I would think this, but I actually find the whole accoutancy studying really interesting!! I am trying to get all my mates to do it! (with varied success!!).

re. the jobs, my advice (having been in a similar predicament myself before) would be to apply to everywhere and anywhere, register with recruitment agencies, and even try and and do some voluntary work so that you can get it on your CV.

    Good luck

    Re:Calling all new diploma students

    hey guys,

I'm studying the Diploma Certificate Level, via distance learning with Premier Training with Osborne books. These books are really good in my opinion.

I can really recommend premier training - their customer service is excellent and the structured plan they issue is really helpful.

I'm only on chapter 7 - looking to start the first assignment this weekend.

Just a quick question for those either with Premier Training or those that know :

    Q. Premier Training offer the AAT through distance learning and don't actually have any AAC's of their own. I'm told that their students can take their exams at any AAC centre that accepts external students.

Has anyone done this already, or can anyone clarify or confirm this is the case?

    Thanks a lot

    Paul

Yeah you can take your centrals at ANY aac that accept external students. I think if you go online as if you are going to book your exam you can see the list of AAC that take external students.

Im with Premier and for 2 years i have been going to Premier as its been the closest AAC for me (80 miles) but last December I contacted a college direct and they accepted me without being on the list.

Hi. Just started Diploma also. Have completed Chapter 9. Have just completed Progress one but am amazed that I cannot answer one or two questions which should be easy. i.e. Are Bank Loans and bank overdrafts classified as Current Liabilities or Long Term Liabilities? And yes - it would be nice to keep this going and help eachother through

Bank overdrafts are current liabilities as they expected to be paid back within the next year, in my humble opinion.

Bank loans are usually expected to be paid back within more than one year so are classed as none current liabilities.

    Hi There!

I am a fellow FTC Diploma student and also really loving it!

I saw a few people mention the Osbourne study books on here. Can anyone tell me if I can buy them from Amazon or Waterstones, and if so what are there full titles and authors? I am looking for some extra examples to work through. FTC give you loads, and I have printed off the past papers but I am figuring that any help I can get would be great.

    Thanks for your help,
    Sarah :D

    Hello to everyone

I am just waiting for my course materials to arrive. I am with FTC doing the diploma route starting with the certificate. Doing the exam in Dec 2006 to make sure I get to grips with things. Good to see others in the same boat, the more help the better. Chris

    Re:Calling all new diploma students

    Hi

Its been a few weeks now since I had my material sent to me by FTC and I am now on Chapter 9. I find it all very interesting and still aiming to sit the exams in June 06.

I have been working for 7 years in an accounts and managerial role for three different companies run by the same employer, but never had the proper qualifications to understand everything as we have external accountant who deals with all the reports etc after I supply the data. Its good that by starting this diploma I understand what its all been about!

I have found that the material provided by FTC is excellent and so far I have no need to use anything else. I haven't even had the need to speak to anyone at FTC, which I hope is good!

    hi Razwana

Good to hear that the course materials are excellent I need them to be easy to understand as I dont have an accounts background but there seems to be plenty of people on here, yourself included, to ask if advice is needed and i am sure i'll need plenty of that!

can anybody tell me how long it was before you received course materials or even a phone call from FTC. I have enrolled for the AAT distance learning diploma course starting with the certificate but it has been over a week now and I havent heard anything. I thought that they at least ring you to discuss things before hand. Can anyone enlighten me as to their experience. Thanks
