Re:NEW CLIENT
Thanks for getting back. Is that a form from IR0 -
Re:NEW CLIENT
Before you even get to 64-8 you need a letter of engagement and to launder them - there is stuff on this part of the website about both.

Re:NEW CLIENT
Sorry I should have been abit more specific.
To me completing a 64-8 includes everything to deal with a new clients affairs. Once this form is sent off everything else should be in place... as claudialowe says, letter of engagement and complying with the laundering regualtions (id).
Again sorry I thought everyone knew there proceedure for 64-8's

Re:NEW CLIENT
Hi
I'm sorry if this sounds like a silly question but........... I am one of those people who have no idea what a 64-8 is??? Please enlighten me and where do I get one?
Thanks

Re:NEW CLIENT
A 64-8 is a Revenue form signed by a client which allows you to talk/write to the Revenue on their behalf. They can be downloaded off the web, or ordered from HMRC (to use their ink and save on yours!).
Revenue though seems to have a habit of logging these on their system so they are there for a while and then they magically disappear again - handy hint scan before sending!

Re:NEW CLIENT
Hi
First of all have you registered with the AAT as a member in practice. If you intend to practice as an accountant in practice you must be registered / licensed with the AAT to do this.
Secondly spend a few days on the HMRC website - it is a valuable source of information and you will learn a great deal from it.
And lastly don't do things outside your competence and ability.0 -
Re:NEW CLIENT
One of the things that is professional courtesy is to write to the old accountant and ask if there are any professional reasons why you can't accept the appointment as if there are outstanding fees it wouldn't be good to take them on. This is not a rule just good practice. I have found that we have lost a couple of clients to an AAT mip who doesn't do this and it's a bit annoying.0 -
Re:NEW CLIENT
That is a very good point.
Although, how can you not write to the previous agents :?... I mean you need infomation regarding the previous set of accounts to reconcile your own control accounts.

Re:NEW CLIENT
I had a case where the previous accountant for a small village hall wouldnt write back to me after two letters and one by recorded delivery.... I could not reconcile some of her balance sheet items, and the then treasurer couldn't help out either, so in the end we re-stated the previous year's accounts - not everyone behaves well.....
