If I get through DFS in June I am looking to do ACCA by home study next - using FTC distance learning course.
I don't know though whether to take 2 papers or 3 at a time and I wondered if anyone could let me know their own experiences. Also, are there groups of papers it would be better to study together because they overlap a bit?
Thanks.
Susan

Re:ACCA
You have to sit the papers in order so that may cut your choice for you. If you can manage it it's better not to sit 2.4 and 2.5 together as they both have really big syllabuses (or is that syllabi?).
As to how many you take in one sitting, that's totally dependent on your personal situation. I take one in December (I work in practice so my workload is big in Dec/Jan) and 2 in June. I only work part time but I have a young family so I couldn't take on any more than this but I know of people workign full time and sitting 3 at a time. It's totally up to you but I would recommend sitting one or two the first time round and seeing how you get on.

Re:ACCA
Anette - did you complete all 3 levels of AAT before starting ACCA?
Is ACCA just purely central exams - no skills tests and portfolio work like AAT?
I'm aiming to finish Intermediate over the summer and am thinking of going straight on to ACCA instead of completing the Tech. level of AAT.
Is it 3 papers, 6 and then 5 (3 core, 2 options) for ACCA?0 -
Re:ACCA
Phunky
Yes I did complete all 3 levels of AAT and I'm glad I did as the technician units have been the most useful (especially tax).
ACCA is purely exams and yes there are 3 in level one (which you are exempt if you complete technician) and 6 in level 2 and 5 in level 3.
The only thing you need to think about is that if you decide not to complete ACCA if you have taken technician you have your AAT qualification still. If you do it your way, you won't have anything. Also I have found that people who have done the AAT route are much better prepared than people who have come through ACCA.

Think I will stick it out and complete AAT then!
Thanks for your advice! :-)0 -
ACCA Home Study
Hi,
I think i've also convinced myself to do ACCA by Home Study after i complete AAT this June.
I live in Preston, Lancashire and i found the options very limited to study ACCA any other way, if you cannot get study leave that is from your employer. My employer isn't mean, i just work for a small company.
The nearest centres to learn it in the classroom are in Manchester, which would be physically impossible to get to during the week for evening classes, so that leaves the weekend courses. The Home Study definitely sounds very tempting.
Anyone got any experience of this?
The pass rates quoted on the FTC website sound very re-assuring?0 -
Re:ACCA
I studied at BPP Manchester and have to say they were excellent (especially the revision courses). The centre is also very easily accessible by train.0 -
Re:ACCA
Thanks for your advice guys, much appreciated.
I think I will only tackle two papers in December and then take it from there.
Many thanks.

Re:ACCA
I don't suppose you did the weekend course's did you?
That was my first thought, to go by train at the weekend.
I wish you could study it in Preston, then my prayers would be answered!
So i'm not really sure what will help me to decide which option to pick, Weekend course in Manchester or Home Study?0 -
Re:ACCA
I am currently studying ACCA via distance learning with FTC as this was my only way to do it. I completed my AAT in February and so decided to just study for unit 2.1 and sitting the exam in June. I find FTC great but I have been told the BPP revision courses are better and I am due to go on a 3 day revision course with BPP week commencing the 22nd May, so will be in a better position to comment on those in a couple of weeks.

Re:ACCA
Hi LuaLua,
yes I did the weekend courses (AAT and ACCA) and again they were fantastic. I can honestly say that not one of the tutors at BPP Manchester were anything less than excellent. They were extremely knowledgeable and (more importantly I find) approachable. They would go to great lengths to help you - I have nothing but praise for the Manchester Centre.

Re:ACCA
Thanks for all your replies, thats really useful to know. I will definitely enquire further into BPP.
Studying v. hard at the moment as i have 4 exams in June! Units 8 & 9, and Business and Personal Tax. I don't fear exams if i can go into them confident that i have done all the revision possible. So fingers crossed for us all.0
