Hi, can anyone help me? Im working my way through the dec 2004 PCR paper and im stuck on task 1.4. I know this may sound thick but even with the answer booklet i dont understand it. The question suggests i should build a spreadsheet model to forecast sales volumes but i dont know where to start with this question. Can anybody help??
Thanks

Re:PCR Dec 2004 Past Paper
Do you have a template?
If not draw up a copy of the template in the task on an ordinary sheet of paper.
Then look at each of these cells:--
B7
-
B8
-
C7
-
C8
B7 should be the trend value for quarter 1 of 2005 (and as the previous quarter was quarter 4 of 2004 or quarter 36, then this should be quarter 37)
You know the trend is y and this is = a + bx
a= 10,000
b=400
so as you know x for this quarter you could enter the formula in B7
= B1 + (B2 * (B3+B5))
Where B1 is the 10,000 and B2 is the 400 and (B3 + B5) is the quarter number 37
Hopefully that will get you started.
If not go back to your linear regression examples and questions such as model A in Dec 2003 Q 2.2 or parts c and d in task 1.2 June 2003 and when you feel a bit happier about the subject then attempt Dec 2004 again.
