Re:Very important notes to Exam sitters
I have practised a few past DFS exam papers and find it impossible to show all workings for all tasks in the time given.
The fact the examining board has stressed the importance of showing workings, and yet workings are still not given by many students suggests time constraint.
The examiners do not complain that incomplete papers are handed in. If time is a constraint then I will always choose to complete the paper first and show workings after.
If the examining board wants the majority of students to show comprehensive workings then maybe the majority of students should be afforded more time.0 -
Re:Very important notes to Exam sitters
DFS is the only exam out of 8 that I have taken or practised that I felt there wasn't enough time for. Yet many people don't show their workings on all of them so I don't think it's just because of lack of time.
People don't realise they should put down all their workings, even for the simple calculations. A clever person can fail if they have bad exam technique. Running out of time for section 2 is another example of this.0 -

nidhal76 well found
AAT thank you, this a major help to understanding the marking of the exam
I hope we will see more of this as time goes by

Re:Very important notes to Exam sitters
DFS is a very time pressured paper but with practise of exam standard questions it is possible to practice time allocation and complete it in the given time.
But do try to put all your workings down as well as the answer. If you get the answer wrong and have no workings you could lose out on vital marks which could end up with you failing the exam.
Good luck

Re:Very important notes to Exam sitters
There is plenty of time to complete this exam, if you know what you are doing. I showed all my workings and still finished the paper, at least 7 minutes before the time was up.

Re:Very important notes to Exam sitters
Yes, I think I finished with 5 or 10 minutes to spare and showed all workings, but I don't think I got anything wrong. It was the December 05 paper and I think one of the most straight forward ever. It might have been a different story if I'd got stuck on something with only 5 minutes spare capacity, so to speak. All the other papers could have (and often were) completed in half the time available by our lot.0
