Hi, does anyone have any ideas on how many people roughly sit this exam apart from the Essex group?
How did people find it? I really struggled with the first part, wasn't aware of the new legislation and not had much in the the way of resources to learn from apart from 1 past exam paper in relation to the first question. Any comments please post. Jo

Luckily I got my hands on the specimen paper last night and looked like rumours were true, the first paper when they change the layout is very much the same as the specimen paper.
Not sure on how many people sit this exam though.0 -

Specimen paper? For todays exam? Or are you talking about the past paper that has Zolham District Council? Had no idea what part 8 is or all that busines with RTB's :roll:0 -
Re:DFS Local Government Exam Jun 06
I sat this in Durham, and really struggled. It's been the topic I have found hardest in any case, but when I read through the questions it really panicked me. Had no idea what item 8 was, and did not know about the legislation changes, so when I saw questions I knew I couldn't answer I just went to pieces. I thought I would go to Section 2 which is always about calculating ratios and interpreting them (which I'm good at)and when I looked at it, it was just a continuation of Section 1. As far as I am aware that's never happened before. I am very disheartened by the whole experience.0 -

I know how you feel, i had my ratios locked in my memory, was struggling with the capital stuff but have spent so much time on it revising. We literally only learnt from past papers (most of which are out of date). I didn't finish section one till just after 12 and panicked about section 2 also as we have to prove competence in both parts. Thought it was quite unfair considering there is no text book, and resources are minimal. I no longer work for LG but when i did people in accounts were unable to help me. Are there many in your group?0 -

I completely struggled with this exam and I thought this was my stronger subject. The second memo in section 2 was a complete nightmare I'd never heard of any of the stuff on it. As for section 1 well what was going on with that Housing Revenue Account -item 8 income, Right to buy, never heard of it?????
I took DFSL at Durham as well and there's about 35 in our class. All the people I spoke to weren't happy at all with it - hopefully they'll lower the pass mark what with so many people struggling.
How many are there in the Essex group?
I don't think very many people do this paper nationally, our tutor was saying that hardly anywhere offers it.0 -

There's about 12 or 13 of us in our group in Essex.0
