I'd swear learning all this accounting stuff has done something to my brain!
The night after the FRA exam, I was having nightmares about accounting!!
I actually woke up the following morning and spent 3 minutes convinced that I was a capital asset, and actually had to roll over to the other side of the bed because I was sleeping on the credit side instead of the debit side!! =/
Have you had any weird experiences as a result of studying accounting?
Do tell!!

Re:AAT: Warning, side effects include...
My dad is an accountant and he always tells me that the debit side is the side nearest the window. The trouble is that when I took my ECR exam on Monday the were windows on the debit and the credit side. :?: How confusing!

this gets weirder and weirder, the accountant where I worked gave me the same piece of advise saying that the dr side is the one nearest to the window.....my exam room had windows on 3 sides?!!! is there some where accounting policy that was missing from unit 5 & 6 ?????!!! this may explain why I messed up nearly every question on wednesday!!!!

Re:AAT: Warning, side effects include...
A friend of mine who used to be a senior manager at Lloyds Bank told me this one...
Every morning, the bank's Chief Accountant would come into work, open a drawer in his desk, look at a piece of paper, close the draw and get on with his work. His staff were always perplexed by this but he never told anyone what was on the paper til the day he retired.
After he'd left one of his staff grabbed the chance, opened the desk drawer and looked at the piece of paper. On it was written the words "Debit - left, credit - right"
Well it amused me but then I was very very drunk at the time of telling.

That so made me laugh Chris D0 -
Re:AAT: Warning, side effects include...
LOL, I'm glad it caused so much joy! =P
Seriously though, have any of you found you've changed as a result of Accounting?
I frightened myself the other week when I went to a funfair with some friends (as mature people do), saw all the rides and found myself saying "Wow, I'd hate to be the guy who depreciates all this! Wonder what their balance sheet looks like"
I got some of the weirdest looks imaginable!
I'd swear I am actually getting more boring! Is it just me!? =/0 -
Re:AAT: Warning, side effects include...
The funfair depreciation thing is amusing to fellow accountancy studiers. Nothing similar to report though lol0 -
Re:AAT: Warning, side effects include...
Loved it Chris. I had nightmares the night of the FRA Exam. Next day I had planned to see my tutor and he was telling me I had failed miserably. Well it didn't actually work out like that but it can get to you.
I would actually welcome the opportunity whereby I had a job that i was immersed into it more. In my job there really isn't enough Accounting work.0 -
Re:AAT: Warning, side effects include...
I find that when revising for exams, my memory capacity sometimes reaches it's limits and starts throwing out "useless information" to make room!
I constantly ask my friends what they're doing that night and then the next day ask what they did last night.
I also forgot what Tesco was called once!!!
I've tried to promise myself I will never become a boring stereotypical accountant - I was once in the cinema with my boyfriend and a middle-aged couple were sat behind us and the man was talking about profit and loss accounts. I said to my boyfriend 'if I ever sound like that - shoot me!'. :-)0
