Hi everyone,

I was thinking ahead to starting technician in september. Heard the project unit in the course is tough going and there are more units and exams. I wanted to find out what I can before I start. Has anyone got any advice?

Thanks
J

My advice would be to try and make a start on your project over the summer. Download the criteria from this website and pick a subject. At least have a basic plan ready for September, otherwise it will get lost in the study for all your exams.

    Good luck

I agree, completing the project seems to take alot of pressure away.

Im starting Technician in September and my college actually starting teaching the project unit in the last term of this year with the hope that we all complete our project during the summer.

To all those who have done it - is it hard or just time consuming ??? :?

its not hard just time consuming gathering all the information and trying to lay it out in a logical order - i found the information on the AAT website excellant - i never used the book we were given as it was just to much info

Ditto with getting the project completed as soon as possible. Our college gave us the project outline at the end of the previous year, which enabled us to make a start during the summer break. Had it completed by Christmas - and boy, was I pleased that I did. Everything seems to gather pace and complexity after christmas so not to have the worry of the project to complete was wonderful; those that hadn't started it soon regretted their decision in January.

As said, it isn't difficult as such to do, it's deciding on what to do that is the biggest decision; then the sitting down and formatting your thoughts. I just sat and typed everything I could think of that was pertinent and went from there. The good thing is a lot of things can be put into the appendices and they don't count in the 4,000 word limit (believe me, its the restricting it to 4000 words that is usually the problem :D )

The guidance on the AAT website is good. Although I must admit I did buy the Osborne book and made good use of that also.
