closing off accounts

Hi
Due to finish my devolved on thurs, and we have a few sort questions to answer but cannot find the info in our text books, can anyone help??
after the draft accounts have ben reviewed and agreed by the partners, the accounts in the main ledger will be closed off for the year end and opening balances down
explain briefly how you would close off:
a) the direct costs account
b) the vat account

Think about where the balances on these accounts will be transferred to.
