hi ive been reading some of the other postings and have a question, i have decided to hold back from acca or cima for a little while, my question is when i get my technician qualification wat can i actually do on my own with out needing a certified, chartered accountant.
i was hoping to do some accounts at home for friends who have there own business, plus i work for a small firm who i do basic book keeping for at the moment. but having read the thread about acca and cima i was concerned how far i can go on my own.

Re:technician
Hi
The only regulated accounting services in the UK are audit, financial services (pensions, investments etc) adn insolvency. Therefore, as AAT qualified you can provide anything other than these services.
Banks and the tax authorities will accept accounts prepared by AAT accountants (though you may want to check turnover limits). You can also prepare accounts for Ltd companies, though you wouldnt be able to audit them also.

Re:technician
thanks neil, perhaps my boss will have a little more faith in me if i pass and stop passing my work to the external accountant, making me feel like im not capable, i know i must be because they never ask me to alter stuff, well hardly ever !!!!!!!!!
thanks again neil0 -
Re:technician
Lee, if they ask you to alter stuff they wont be in a job
Although a lot of checking happens even when you do prepare a complete double entry trial balance.

Re:technician
thanks for that, it shines a whole new light on things, i never thought of it like that !!
i really would like to get my teeth in to doing it for real if you understand me, but part of me is a little scared in case i really mess up! i suppose thats were working in a practise rather than industry comes in handy you always have someone to ask, in my job theres only me, and although im confident in some areas, others are abit daunting.0
