Hello,
I've got a job interview for an internal auditor for local goverment and I've got to give an informal presentation on 'how to explain internal audit to a new manager'. I've done a fair bit of research and feel reasonably confident but I just wondered if anyone had any hints or tips on the topic in hand or even how to give a sucessful presentation full stop!
Thanks

Re:Internal Audit
Hi Kate - try the Institute of Internal Auditors website...www.iia.org.uk
should give you some input for what audit is etc...I guess you'd start be defining what IA is...independent, objective assurance/ consultancy service...with the remit of adding value to the organisation. Be careful to remember that a lot of the website material will be geared toward private sector, if this is local government, they're more likely to be interested in value for money, spending of public funds etc...obviously not so much 'shareholder' driven.
With ref to presentations, try and do your first few minutes well - it'll boost your confidence and the rest of your stint should flow. Try and think outside the box - Internal Audit's developing in lots of new ways with things like...Enron/ Worldcom etc... and if you can show that you're competent and confident enough to consider any risk and every risk, I think you'll impress.
If you need anything further just let me know!
Good luck0 -
Re:Internal Audit
Thank you so much for spending the time to reply.
Public sector experience/internal audit was not listed as essential so I'm guessing not too much knowledge is required. Best to over prepare though!...I had a look at the website suggested and there was some good background info, the Audit Commission site was really interesting also.
Your tips on the presentation are totally appreciated, I think you're right on the money with the advice about the first few minutes.
Thanks again, keep you're fingers crossed!!0
