I intend to go to uni from autumn '07, and so will be applying through UCAS in a couple of months. I've been going to a half-dozen open days, and talked to admissions tutors re direct entry onto the second year of Accounting and Finance courses. These are the approximate responses:
"Yes, we welcome applications from people with AAT. You would be likely to be offered a place."
Oxford Brookes
De Montfort (Leicester)
"We would certainly consider your application. You may be offered a place."
East Anglia (Norwich)
Essex (Colchester)
Hertfordshire (Hatfield)
Anglia Ruskin (Cambridge and Chelmsford)
"You would be unlikely to be offered a place."
Kent (Canterbury)
I have many questions!
Has anyone else had similar experiences with admission tutors?
Has anyone out there been offered or rejected from these or other unis?
Is anyone going to be attending one of these in Autumn '07?
Can you recommend any other uni?
Does anyone know how well they are respected as institutions?
How did people find going directly into the second year?
Finally, is there any real difference between a BA (Bachelor of Art) and BSc (Bachelor of Science)? It sounds a little potayto-potahto to me.
many thanks
Graham

Re:Degree- Location, location
Hi
The difference in designation (BA or BSc) tends to be up to the uni to decide, accounting and business tends to be a subject that is considered arts by some, science by others.
As for the admissions, different uni's have different requirements, probably best to have a look at the list in the students careers section. It's alos advisable to choose a degree that give the best exemptions form ACCA/CIMA if you intend to pursue accounting exams in the future. One of the De Montfort degrees gives exemptions from all but the finale stages of ACCA and CIMA, other degrees only give a few more papers than AAT.

Re:Degree- Location, location
Hi,
I have been offered a place at uni doing a degree in accounting and finance at De Montfort Uni in Leicester. I was offered a place a month or so after i applied, however i think my age went in my favour, i will be 28 when i start so classed as a mature student.
However one my friends who also is going will only be 18 and she has also now been offered a place.
I have also been told if i pass the tech level i am guarenteed a place on the second year but i assume it depends which uni you go to as to what there policy is.
I can only be biased as i live in leicester, but apparently de montfort has a good reputation, they also offered a paid placement year as part of the course.
Also with regards to exemptions, at the moment if you do the degree at de montfort you get exemption from papers 1 and 2 with ACCA, however i have been told by the tutor that this will change in 2007 and as of yet they do not know how much, so you may get less exemptions.
Hope this helps and good luck with what you choose.
