I've just completed my Intermediate by distance learning and am looking to go on to do the next level at college.

There appear to be 2 different options - either Diploma which appears to be a more practice based route or NVQ4 which I am led to believe is more business orientated.

As I don't yet know which way I want to head after the exams but neither do I want to miss out on the opportunity of either which way is best for me to go?

The tutor said they are not allowing anyone to sign up for NVQ2 & 3 anymore all new students will have to do the diploma but doesn't this mean they are missing out business options?

If I took the NVQ 4 could I study seperately at a later date to do the Personal tax and ethics side not covered by this route or visa versa?

Aargh which way to go I just don't know - any advice gratefully received.

Cheers,
Scooby.

    Hi

Both the Diploma & the NVQ routes offer exactly the same in terms of syllabus, so you can study tax & ethics by taking either option.

The only difference as far as I am aware is the diploma is better for students who find it difficult to get the practical experience required for full membership.

    Hope this helps

Thanks, maybe their running it differently at the college I'm to enrol at cause he said it was BT & PT + ethics on diploma and BT & Cash Management on NVQ, it all seems very confusing!

    Hi

Each route has options at the final stage (diploma or NVQ). However, some colleges only run certain options, so they may be decided for you.

Under NVQ you do any 2 from Buiness Tax, Personal Tax, Audit or Cash Mangement. On the Diploma route, cash management replaces Reports and Returns (because most of this covered by the final stage anyway) at the Advanced Certificate/middle stage. This leaves you to do any 2 options from Business Tax, Personal Tax or Audit as part of the diploma level.Have a look at (http://www.aat.co.uk/join/display/store4/item267/) which explains the units of each.

Each route covers a similar syllabus and neither is more suited to practice or industry than the other.
