P**d off with college - need to moan

edited June 18 in AAT student discussion
I've found out yesterday that my tutor hasn't fully assessed my Unit 10 project - so has missed the deadline, so now I won't get my certificate next month when they are due out. (Provided I have passed exam - which I feel confident that I have). He is supposed to register unit 15 & 17 with the AAT also, which I'm not sure if he has.

The thing with my project is that I gave it to him at the end of March, and because he said he didn't have time to go thru it because of revision courses, timetables, etc (I'm at private college) he finally said he'd look at it at end of June, then gave it back and said he wanted it re-drafted. Which I did and got it back to him by 5 July, so I can't understand why he hasn't assessed it - he only teaches AAT, classes have finished till September why 'o' why do I have to pay for his lack of interest!!!!

I've been having problems like that all my life with teachers/lecturers etc.

    Fact of life I suppose.

Solution: glug a four pack of fosters, and if things get really bad take revenge with a whoopee cushion.

I had the same problem with my project last year. Handed it in at the beginning of July, but tutor/college didnt tick all the boxes until end of October - AAT then took 6 weeks to deal with it, so didnt get my certificate until just before Christmas and then only cos I hassled them so much that they emailed me my application form - grrrrrrrrr

I have also just handed my project in yet my tutor has informed me its too late.

I handed all my project in last month but only got round to getting a witness testimony off my old employee last week.

I have now missed the deadline, does this mean there is no way I can start ACCA in December?

my tutor said that once he has signed if off and recorded it with AAT then I should start mithering them to send me a new statement of achievment. Doesn't help though that he sat on it since March and let his kid scrawl all over it.

Well I think our college can beat all of that!!!!! I won't say which as we are fighting for refunds at the moment but for the last year we have had a tutor for a maximum of 10 evenings (once a week instead of twice a week) as she was off sick for most of it (known to be a complete fake) and the college didn't bother to get a replacement until 10 weeks before exams. We have all failed most of our exams this year as have had no tuition and quite ffrankly if we wanted to do distance learning we would have and not gone to college !!!!! The college has been totally uninterested in our complaints and ignore our letters/calls/emails. Re Unit 10, one of our class handed her project in at the first class in September and it has still not been properly signed off yet !!!!!

Aaaaaaahhhhh - sorry about that - needed a bit of a rant...........

Does any one have a contact at AAT to complain out study centres?

The complaints procedure can be found here http://www.aat.org.uk/students/display/store4/item322/

I've never had any complaints with my college, they've always appeared professional and to take their responsibilities seriously. I just can't believe how some colleges manage to get away with this stuff.

If I was in planty's situation, I'd not only be complaining to the AAT but would be seeking legal advice too...and that would just be the start!

Hi Chris, well we advised all that had been happening in the EV visit but I don't hold my breath. They said "oh dear it seems the college have a lot of work to do" but then they said that last year as well. Personally I think the college should have their accreditation removed but they seem to just bluff their way through (not matter what the students tell AAT). We are all trying to get refunds so we can go elsewhere and have been offered a pathetic amount so far !!!!! The legal route is definately the next move - getting legal advice at the mo along with gathering letters etc we have all sent together..... fingers crossed I guess

Agreed. Both our colleges took the marking and deadliens seriously, the quality of tuition did vary but there was no what I would term "negligence". I think that some colleges - or rather their staff - are dealing with young students (sixth form age or just slightly older) and think they can mess them around. We were a mature class (mostly in 30s/40s I'd guess) of full-time employees who would not be "backwards about coming forwards". We also had a a very proactive employer, and there would have been immediate contractual problems (yes, the employer had a contract with the college) if there were any complaints.

I've set up a website for people to have a moan about their colleges http://cjcnet.net/colleges/. It's still in test stage but feel free to have a look around and let me know what you think.
