I am off to visit a potential client tomorrow, and they have been using MYOB.

Does anyone know anything about it - its strengths and/or weaknesses?

Is it poo like Quickbooks?

Do I recommend them to use Sage (my preference! 8) ) I dont want to recommend them something else when what they already have is fine and dandy.

They have just gone over the VAT threshold so it would need to cope with VAT as well.

Any thoughts much apprecidated.

Thanks Dean - had a look at their website and it seemed pretty rubbish, but wanted confirmation from someone else.

Also the lack of replies lead me to believe that it was not something commonly used.....

Have just spotted your MYOB query. I was doing some software evaluation work for a new client (new business and wanted a computerised system). I was able to download a trial copy of MYOB...... took one look and held my head in my hands. I have 20+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience with a variety of programmes and decided that this was one that I would prefer not to use!

The client went with QuickBooks as they were familier with Quicken. Not too bad the client likes it.

Have you thought of looking at TAS Books? Slightly cheaper than Sage, includes all the ledgers required, VAT etc but has some superb reporting facilities depending upon what the client requires.

    Thanks Sharon

I will try and have a look at TAS books - although the name puts me off - in our house TAS stands for "thick as s**t"

In that case don't let the name put you off. I started life using TAS books 2 for bookkeeping software and must say that it was very good in all areas.

Oh alright Dean - for you anything

Also, money laundering that we were on about the other day - I have realised that I spend my life laundering money - I find the most amazing amount comes out of the washing machine - and I work on the principle of finders keepers, losers, weepers - should I turn myself in

Wasn't MYOB featured as the cover story of the Tech mag? An MAAT works for them.

The institute of certified bookkeepers reccommends MYOB as an easy to use and affordable package for bookkeepers. I pay £200 per year for 3 packages, all the suport i need, and an account manager i can chat to with any issues or suggestions i may have. And it only costs me a fiver to add additional companies.
I find thier customer service is by far the best. I found SAGE was just the worst company I have ever had to deal with, an overpriced too!
