Have just spoken to HMRC about a tax return submitted on 23.06.06 (had to be paper as terminal loss claim also submitted).

They have informed me that Norwich office have only opened their post up to 20 June 2006!!!!!!!! so my client's case (and large refund) will not be dealt with for another 2 - 3 weeks.

64-8 submitted on 2 May and still not processed either

What worries me greatly is that this is supposed to be their quietest time of year and they are taking 6 weeks just to open their post - what will they be like in December let alone January???

Perhaps we (and our clients) should send SA tax to the local office, and then our cheques might not be cashed for 6 weeks  me thinks that would not happen.

It has just dawned on me  the reason for bringing forward the filing date was to give their staff more time to open the post before the next tax year started

    Yep, that is right.

One word to describe it? "SHOCKING"

I wouldn't mind the turn around time... IF... everything was done right the first time!
