How hard is it when you are working full time & have a part time family? :?

It is difficult whatever your circumstances.
It is not just learning new things most of which are extensions to your existing knowledge and so not too difficult to pick up providing you do plenty of reading and practice. But the volume of work is by far greater than intermediate and foundation.

I would think about what you would be able to cope with.
What would be the possiblity of your college letting you start with a view to completing within a year and if you find it too much extending the period to 2 years?
Some people I went to college with did this.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Michelle

I think that is what i am going to do. The project unit i think is the most daunting, that and going to college for 2 nights. I will feel better i think when i have started.

Its all about time management isn't it.

    Cheers

    Hi

I did technician level over 1 yr and compared to intermediate it was hell of a lot more work, but if you can manage your time well then u shouldnt have any problems getting it done in 1 yr.
There were a few at my college who started it in Sept last year and will finish in Dec this year, so they will do it in just over a year...maybe u could do that option??

Re:Do i study Technician level in 1 or 2 years

    Hi,

I worked full time and have 2 children (both under 3), i went to college 3 nights a week as stupid me decided to take very option, as you can probably imagine it was to much. I passed DFS and cmcc, but failed personal tax due to not having enough time to study. I then finished working and went to college full time.

If your company is supportive and willing to give you study leave, and also if you have a supportive family then i would say give it a go, it also depends what units you are thinking of taking. If you decide to do it over 1 year then i would suggest you get your project done as quickly as possible so you can concentrate on your exams.

I didn't find technician that hard, however i did do foundation and intermediate over 1 year so was used to the hard work.

It depends what your goals are at the end of the technician, mine are to go on to uni, so wanted to do it quicker.

Hope this helps with your choice and goodluck with what ever you choose.

Re:Do i study Technician level in 1 or 2 years

I did tech level over two years and foundation and intermediate over one.

A few people at my college did it over one year and they struggled. There is a lot more to cover in the last level - more units plus project.

I did the core units in year one and the optional units and the project in year two.

Working full time and studying is difficult and if you are up for the challenge then you can do it in one year.

I wanted to make sure I passed everything first time and also had time for my family - it worked as I passed all of the AAT exams on all levels first time.

I don't feel that it has put me back a year doing it over the two years.

It's up to you how you choose to do it - some colleges even do it over 18 months as well. Have a chat to your tutor.

    Good luck!

    Hi

I'm doing the same - getting the exams over with this year then I will study the optional units straight after in December. As the exams are set to twice a year I'd rather have a good stab at these first as skills tests can be taken whenever. I'd recommend doing project early too as I am soooo pleased mine is signed off now I can hardly remember what a pain it was fitting it in now.

    Good luck, Tori

if you do decide to take in one year, id reccomend getting the project done asap. I had it completed for april which was fine, but many left it until june and were told the lecturers didnt have the time to mark it and that they would have to return to college the following year, putting them back 6 months. It is doable in a year, but it can be hard work.

I would definately give it a stab in one year, if you fail anything it can be re sat in December, which to me is better than lessons again the year after.

I got my project done early, starting it before the new term then plugged on with the subjects, i think ive done ok but possibly failed the personal tax which ill re sit in december.

Try it you can always change your mind half way through if it seems too hard

It all depends on the college you attend and your own natural ability.

I have just done the Technican stage I started it in March and opted for the two skills test options, I sat the 3 core exams in june.

So fingers crossed I will have passed.

I have a son aged 3 and work 30 hours a week, so it can be done

    Hi

I decided to do it over 18 months, I did one exam in the december and 2 exams in the june just gone and then I will do the last one in december this year.

My initial view was 'then I have from Jan to Sept' to decide whether I want to do ACA, ACCA or CIMA.... and that break as I thought I full year break would have been too much for me not to go back.

You wouldn't have to have a break at all as you can take exams for the bodies you've mentioned in June!
