Now i am an "Accounting Technician" yippee - i understand i can now produce accounts up to trial balance, does this mean that all a qualified Accountant has to do is sign them off or will he have to do further work on the accounts first?
Could someone clarify what an Accouting Technician is able to do

I have exactly the same question.

If I was to start offering bookkeeping and accountancy services to local clients how far am I able to go as an Accounting Technician?

If the work will need to go to a qualified accountant after I have finished it, how can I justify my work? - why won't the client go straight to the qualified accountant.

It seems difficult to find a set of guidelines as to exactly what we are able to do. Similarly, it is difficut to find out about rates to charge etc etc.

    Can anyone help?

The qualified accountant would be able to sign off accounts, but more importantly they will be preparing the statutory accounts and must have th erequired knowledge.

There's much more to learn than what we have just done. Much much more.

    Hello

I work in the members in practice section at the AAT. We commonly get asked questions with regard to what accounts a self-employed student member or a full or fellow member who is part of the scheme for members in practice is entitled to complete.

I can direct you towards this thread on the members in practice forum that recently discussed this issue.

Even if you are not yet a full member of the AAT, you may find a lot of helpful information on the members in practice forum that is relevant to your work.

The short answer to your query is that in general accounts do not need to be signed-off by a qualified accountant. The main exception to this is if the client requires an external audit.

I hope this helps, please feel free to contact me directly if you need any more detailed advice.
