Hi,
Does anyone know if, as a member of the AAT, we are eligible to sign passports?
Thanks
Kate

Re:Passport signing
I signed for my neighbour's kids a while back and no problems, but I dont know if adults are different.... also I think that the rules may have changed now, have you looked at the passport office website?

Hi Claudia,
No I haven't looked on the passport office website yet, but will have a look.
Thanks for your advice

Re:Passport signing
The official guidelines state you must be 'an accountant or of similar standing'.
Also, you have to have known the person for at least 2 years and be a passport holder yourself.

Thanks Scott. I have know the person for a number of years, so on that front it will be OK. Just thought I would check first, just in case
Thanks

Re:Passport signing
I've been looking into applying for my AAT Fellow membership recently and according to the AAT Fellow Membership Fact Sheet it is only once you are elected as a fellow member that you are allowed to be a signatory for passport applications.0 -
Re:Passport signing
Hi,
I am a MAAT and signed my neighbours passport a few weeks ago and she has recieced her passport no problem.
The passport office wrote to me asking me to write back on letter headed paper stating my role in the company. I wrote back (they accepted a fax) saying I was employed as an Accounting tech and that my governing body was the assoc of accounting tech and that I was also self employed as an accountant for small companies and sole traders and that was it.

Sarah

Looking at the rules you are only allowed to sign passport photos if you are a fellow member.0 -
Re:Passport signing
Hi,
The passport office seemed more concerned with your standing in the community and as I was classed as an accountant or similar standing that was o.k. (As Scotty mentioned above).
My husband could even sign as he is an engineer with his own business although he has only done city and guilds in engineering.
Luckily the passport was approved it is unlkely I would get asked again.
Regards,
Sarah
p.s. Just out of interest where did you find the rules. thanks

Re:Passport signing
Rules was probably the wrong term to use - it mentions nothing in Full member information but on the fellow member information sheet it states that a fellow member can sign passport photos.0 -
