Hi,
I'm starting technician in September ( I have passed foundation and intermediate ) and I was wondering how much of a step up it is from intermediate. At first I did find the move between foundation and intermediate hard but I settled. Am a bit worried about technician.
Also which books are best to use for technician, BPP or Osbourne ? I have used Osbourne the last two years but not sure for technician as will need all the help I can get !

Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
Hi
I completed Technician in June. I found a lot of work to get through, but if you put the time in you will have no problem.
The college I went to recommended Osbourne, Especially for DFS, as the International standards came in last year.
Stick at it you will be fine

Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
I finished in February and used Osbourne books for all Tech level modules and found them great.
I also found the BPP passcards useful when revising.

Thanks for all your advice. Just waiting for our local bookstore to actually get the books in !0 -
Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
If you are using Osbourne books you can order them direct.
Contact details are:
Tel 01905 748071
Email: books@osbournebooks.co.uk
or via their website:
www.osbournebooks.co.uk
When I had mine I ordered them through college as they got a discount for bulk ordering which they passed on to students. If you are studying at a college then it may be worth asking if they are operating a similar scheme.

Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
I cannot comment on the jump from foundation to intermediate as I was exempt from foundation level.
However I was worried about the jump from intermediate to technican and the jump never realy arose as although it is slighty harder the subjects follow in from intermediate so it is not too bad.
Hard work will pay off for sure, you can do it go for it.0 -
Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
Hi Mischief
I was allowed to skip the foundation year and went straight into intermediate... however it took some time to settle into it, however with a lot of work I got there.
Im now half way through my technicial level having decided to do it over 2 years so that I could give it the time I felt it needed.
However there is a lot of work and a lot of different topics to be doing, which can take some brain juggling at times, although you find that what you learn in one lesson leads or helps in a different topic.
Make sure you have enough time and you'll be fine. Hard work it maybe but worth it in the end

Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
Hi Mishmash
there are two books.. a tutorial and a workbook
isbn's are:
tutorial: 1-872962-93-9
workbook: 1-872962-88-2
the tutorial goes over the topic gives you some questions and includes the answers
the workbook is just questions and some simulation papers.. however not too sure where the answers come from (except our tutor when we've done our homework!!) I think you can get an answers only book too.
our college includes the osbourn books as part of our package.
i find them great to understand and quite helpful, although im not starting this particular topic til after christmas so cant say for this specific unit but theyve been great for the others!0 -

I recommend FTC. The new look books are a lot easier to follow this year.
I have passed with them before.0 -

Re:Advice please, starting technician in September.
Hi ya
I know what you mean about the jump from foundation to intermediate and I was worried about the jump to technician.
The good thing I found was that there we very little portfolio work for Technician which was a great help.
If I could only give you one bit of advice I would say start your project now and do as much as you can. I left mine until the last minute and ended up trying to do that at the same time as studying for the exams. It was not good!
Best of luck. It is worth it in the end.0
