Hi all.
I have been studying Technician level for the past year on a home study course, as the company i work for were unable to let me finish early to attend college two evenings a week.
I took two exams in December 2005 and failed both of those, and i took two more exams in June 2006 and failed both of those, i don't get home from work until 6.30pm and that's when it isn't month end in which case sometimes it isn't until 9.30pm, even though i was studying 5 nights out of 7 for a good 3 hours or more sometimes each of those nights.
The problem i am finding is that in my everyday job as an Accounts Assistant i am not actually doing anything covered in the exams and at the moment since i failed the last two i have got so sick of studying every single night and not getting anywhere.
I am re-taking PCR and PEV in Dec 2006, please can anyone help me formulate a study plan and give me some advice, also get some motivation back so that i don't feel so fed up.
Thank you,
TD

Re:Help
I would enrol for a weekend revision course, that is my advise. Somewhere like FTC or BPP0 -
Re:Help
Hi
It’s really sad that you tried but didn’t get enough help. It’s true all the contents of the PEV, PCR & DFS papers may not be related to your day-to-day job but it will help now and then.
I have passed all the Tech. level exams (just need to finish project) from home study. Generally practiced from Osborne Books also used BPP books.
Most of the employers are supportive. But, sometimes they don’t help.
If your boss doesn’t support (luckily mine is very helpful) I’d recommend you should discuss this with him/her .
Probably things would be better, otherwise you can look for accounts job elsewhere( but don’t rush)
At the end of the day I’d like to tell AAT is really demanding qualification and it will open up lots of opportunities.
Best of luck

Hi
I am so sorry that your employer is less than helpful, because for Technician you do need support to be able to cover the work. I also found that the course has no relevance to my job as a Bursar and therefore made it twice as difficult.
I have just completed technician via home study and studied one or twice a week for about 3 hours and then about 6 weeks before the exams did practise papers until I was blue in the face and was seeing them in my dreams!
For PCR and PEV I would thoroughly recommend Sandy Hood's revision weekend if you can make it as he really made sense of the subjects.
I would agree with Echo that the time has come for you to have a talk with your line manager and try to sort out some reasonable working hours while you are doing the technician, because it would be very sad if you gave it up.
Best wishes
