Hi, I am just setting myself up as self employed and am looking to invest in a tax package which will enable to me to file online with HMRC. I have looked at a number of packages but am not really famaliar with them so am unsure what I need to look for. Can anyone offer advice on which package they would recommend?

I agree with Claudia, PTP is a good piece of tax software.

Agreed.
Although the ptpgroup seem to have a much better support. I've never used them... with all that support I assume they have a REALLY complex piece of software

Re:Tax Software
I agree the PTP support is excellent, they were very helpful when I tried a couple of their demos(having said that there was probably a hidden sales agenda)
I haven't had to use the taxcalc support yet even though I have been using their software for a couple of years, I just find it very straight forward.
I also tried the Drumhor software this is also very good and the support is also excellent but it is a bit on the pricey side.

Re:Tax Software
I have a practice with over 400 clients and a network system with 4 computers
Drummohr Technology (tax assistant) is well worth the money. Since 1995 I have been filing on line via ELS and recently on Internet and never had one tax return rejected !
Fantastic peice of kit and it also links with my accountancy software, so I can inport final accounts at a click of a mouse !0 -

I agree with Robin. I have used Drummohr Technology (tax assistant)since 1998 and have found it to be brilliant. I use VT accounts package and can import the accounts directly into the self-employed pages, and transfer from the partnership return to the individual partner's returns all as Robin says at the click of a button.
I expect their support is very good, but I have only ever had to use it once years ago to help me set up properly on a network. It has never crashed or done anything stupid - the only problems with filing on the internet have been due to the Inland Revenue :roll:0
