Hi all,

I really could do with some advice.....

Im due to start a new job on the 25th sept as a trainee management account, i have only one unit left to do of technician then im finished....but i have just found out i have got through to the next stage of the recruitment process to be a police officer....the problem is its in the first week of my new job....i really dont know what to do, i have always wanted to be in the police, but quite excited about my new job......

can anyone help????

    its a bit sneaky but try n book a week off work holiday as if you dont get through all the police stages you will still need this job??

    one way round it not the most honest but if you tell your new employers they may not be so understanding but then again if you explain it too them they may be really understanding and supportive due to your honesty

    erm sorry dont know what to suggest really

    You could tell them that you have a long standing appointment which you have been unable to reschedule. It would be the truth...just not the whole truth!

    Definitely get to the police thing as you will regret it if you don't. My colleague has recently got through all the stages and is just waiting for her start date. She is completely stoked as it's what she wanted and if you want it, you should go for it.
    It'll probably be a number of months before you start with the police, anyway. So just bind your time in your new job.

    Hi Mel its Laura.

    I definately think you should go for the police thing! It's your dream to do it and you've waited so long for the chance.
    Then if you don't get through theres always loads more accountancy jobs you could apply for but the police thing is a rare opportunity.

    Asked a bit more, my colleague started the application process in July 2005 and passed everything in July this year. She's been told that the people starting in October applied in 2004 (don't know the month) and she might be starting at the end of this year or next year.
    So definitely get a job in the mean time!
